Description Contest entry for The theme was something relating to school. So, I took my growing cast from SOAP and placed them in a school-type environment. Specifically a playground. ...maybe they are a tad too old for it, so I'll just have to MAKE it work!

You know, it's kind of ironic, school is indeed a place for learning with it's halls, yet what many of us may remember the most are the days of old where we'd play during recess hours, meeting with friends and experiencing memories many of us really are likely not quite going to forget. ...er, plus, with a cast this big I couldn't quite fit them all in a classroom.

So, what's going on? Well... you can probably see what is occurring. As for what some of the characters are saying, well I'll let you decide!

Also, I took this drawing as an opportunity for color. Finally, most of my cast appears in vivid colors! What do you think, do the schemes work for them? I also used some textures: the pavement and the sky that is. They are from photos that I personally took. Again, what do you think, does it work, or does it push the suspension if disbelief a tad bit too far?

Anyway, that's that then. Hopefully you'll like it: I certainly feel satisfied! I'd love to hear your feedback, if you so desire!

Comment as you will~

Oh wow! Quite a collection of characters in this one single picture! I'm rather impressed with this!
I love how all the characters interact with each other too. (I like the capt. in the back, it kind of looks like he's encouraging someone about to be catapulted, despite the fact the guy is a dog)

Anyways, critique!
There is a lot to see here, flow works out well in this on two levels, the upper half and the lower half.
In the upper half, my eyes follow whats going on from left to right well, however the person under the jungle gym destracts my sight a little before moving on to the other side of the picture
same with the bottom half, only it flows from the two sword fighting to the group playing Tic tac toe and back to Leo reading with the other cute character (I wish I can remember their names at the moment XD). Not that its a bad thing. Flow works out well there.

So far, everything looks good in this. You did a outstanding job on this and gets a e.deviantart.net/emoticons/p/p… " width="15" height="16" alt="" title="+fav" /> from me!

Bwhaha, that's actually precisely what the captain back there! He's kind of like the goofball teacher type who encourages mayhem.

Hm, really, the fellow under the structure was distracting? Oops, I see D: You have a good point though, I need to work more with my visual flow. Thanks for the advice dude!

Not many people know this, but play is the work of children. And that is agreed by many child psychologist. I love this theme, and yes, I certainly remember the play ground stories from long long ago. Even in highschool "break times" were filled with so many memories. There is just so many things going on here, everyone is playing their own kind of game. I love how the little bird guy is reading Political Enlightenment upside down. Either way it would be a rediculous hard to read book. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/x/x… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title="XD" /> Hee hee.

LOL! That is on overplayed tick-tack-toe game!~ and it looks like the girl penguin won twice! I think it was too much for her buddy to handle, haha. Seeing as how the sky is peachy red, one would think it'd be later in the evening when they were playing. I really like it though, it reminds me of after care, the recess played after school! I had to pick up my siblings from that late in the evenings after college classes. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)" /> So either way the sky color worked out nicely!~ All the characters are so adorable here, wonderful job on this contest entry!

"Play is the world of children". I like how you worded that, the "work" of children. I don't quite know why, but that sounds kind of poetic. Well, politics are always hard to follow, at least for me, unless you are really savvy with it. I guess we ought to give the poor kid credit though, he's trying!

Oh yeah, they overplayed it alright. Cartoons sure are silly aren't they... yes, I blame the players, not artist error. Yes. Indeed. D:

As for the red sky... well originally it was going to be blue, like noon blue, but I thought that the orange sky worked a bit better. Because I am a sucker for evening scenes. So yeah, let's say it takes place after school! Thanks for your detailed input, I really appreciate it!

Well, I didn't mean to say it was my words, a famous psychologist said it first. XD You're very welcome of course, you give out so many good critiques, I thought I should return some as well!~

This came out great! It's nice seeing all of your characters in one place and enjoying themselves. Looking at this reminds me of the old cartoon Recess that they used to play on ABC in the mornings.

Ah, I have only seen it a few times, but strangely enough I was thinking about it at some points during the drawing.

Haha, thanks of course!

I used to love watching it in the morning. I think there's still a channel that actually plays it.

Playgrounds are a lot of fun! Too bad there aren't too many that are big enough for me nowadays (now for Masakuni however that's a different story).

Anyway, lots of characters that seem to be having lots of fun. I think you got the playground environment down pat. Awesome!

Yeah, I guess technically playgrounds for adults are like gymnasiums or sports-teams. Heh, seems like some things don't translate a clearly as we grow older. D:

This is a group shot and then some! Love all the different action going on here, most of it very humourous. Best of all, it's fantastic to see just what your SOAP cast look like in full, vivid colour. Awesome detail on the background and perspective here as well. A winner in my book, this.
