Description A new version of the Odyssey-class cruiser, in the form of ENS Amithaera, the main ship of Book 1 of the Diaspora Series.

This is a big image - view full size/download for the best view.

Although initially envisioned as an adaptable multi-role cruiser, the 800-metre Odyssey-class excels as an anti-shipping cruiser.  Her main armament is four 600 mm cyclonic accelerator batteries mounted in two pairs (one fore, one aft), supplemented by 96 Athene multi-vector missiles and a pair of old-fashioned linear keelguns.  Carrying up to 30 small- and strike-craft in her landing bays and docking ring, a full century of United Earth Legionnaires, and a five hundred-strong crew, the Odyssey-class is a true starship-of-war, and has become a fearsome and capable workhorse for the United Earth Navy.  Able to accelerate continuously at 1G for up to 19 days, she can pull up to 10Gs of acceleration for short bursts if required - to the great discomfort of her crew and radiator arrays.

The arrival in-system of an Odyssey-class cruiser is a statement of intent by the United Earth Alliance - be it to keep the peace, uphold the law, or dictate terms.  The ominous flicker of her cyclonic accelerators spinning up to firing velocity is a statement of a sort as well, of course.

Looks amasing. Now I suddenly realise that I have no sense in scale whatsoever.

Not exactly what I meant.

One of the spacecraft I use in my sci-fi writing is an 820m long starcruiser. I never really comprehended exactly how huge that was until I saw this. XD

Ah, fair enough.  Heh, yes, it is rather big.

Whoa, didn't even notice the human scale figure before I looked at the full-sized image. Just how big is this thing? I'd estimate it's somewhere in the 1-2 km range.

Heh, sharp eyes.  She's exactly 800 metres long, so not far off your lower estimate.
