Description
Basil of Baker Street and Elizabeth Starling meet for the first time...Yes, I know this is basically a repeat, but deal with it, ye wenches! Yar!
...Well, that was random...
Anyway, as I've written before, after reading Ethel M. Grime's [link] wonderful fiction related to Disney's "The Great Mouse Detective", I couldn't help but draw fanart. This is the main final product, which is dedicated to Lady E. (My, practically three of the same pictures, just for you, Lady E! Aren't you pleased?
I had fun with this one and I'm very happy with the result. I added a background, which, I most humbly inform you all so as not to be confronted with any bad thingies, is NOT mine. Please know that the background is taken from a edited screenshot while watching the GMD DVD.
Speaking of which, I tried to make the picture look as such by adding black bars, grain and text... Hope it looks like its from the movie to others.
Anywho, hope you like it, Lady E.!
Please note that everything except for the BG was done by me, but the fictional character Elizabeth Starling solely belongs to the wonderful Ethel M. Grimes. (I just drew her

Oh, yeah... Those things on Basil's cheek... That's mud. They're suppo-o-o-o-osed to be there. :: runs off ::

You did a very good job on Elizabeth Starling. She is an unusually pretty GMD OC. Nicely done.

you're welcome Kelly! how did you move your drawings on to the background? i too, hate backgrounds, but my pics look flat without one.

Well, whenever working in Adobe Photoshop, I use different layers--like the topmost layer would be for the line-art; the second would be for coloring (but I usually create what is called a Set, which looks like and is a type of "collapsible folder" where many layers can be put, but without having a whole bunch of layers that you'd have to scroll through in the Layers Window); and with the VERY LAST layer, I usually make the background.
In this case, I cut and used a bit of background from an actual screen-capture and pasted it onto the BG layer, so Basil and Elizabeth would seem more...fitting.

I've skipped viewing this image because I knew it had to be from a story I've yet to read. Dumb reason, but anyway! I'm snooping around FF.net, reading GMD stuff in secrecy. Now, that I've gotten a closer look at it, even though I don't know what's going on, I'm extremely impressed by its detail! It DOES look very Disney-style, like a hand-painted animation cel! Yeah, I wanna
this and then go see if I can locate the story!

lol--that's not dumb! ...but thank you, Brinatello!...The story is actually posted on deviantART, you know, by the person this is dedicated to!

I LOVE this story, mouselady is a genius and this piture is so cute... Elizabeth is so ... aaaw

LePipsqueak In reply to Noe-Izumi [2005-05-10 23:56:02 +0000 UTC]
EXACTLY! THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT!
The first time I read mouselady's story, the "Young Sherlock Holmes" film was on the television practically the next day! ('Twas cool...Must rent)
And I was all like, "Whoa!" when I learned that the Holmes' li'l sweetheart was named Elizabeth (I came in at the middle of the movie); and I was all like, "WHOA! THAT'S JUST LIKE THAT ONE GMD STORY! OMG!" when she died.
Co-o-o-o-o-ol. (Not that she died, I mean! )
I'm glad you like the picture! I like it, too! HA!
