Description
"During the early years of the film's development (in the early 1980s), both Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata were involved with the film, but left due to differing views on what the film should be, and desire to work on other projects. [Brian Froud and Jean Giraud/Moebius also participated in the film.]"
While the film was more or less Westernized, you can still see hints of Miyazaki and Takahata's influence in the art...especially in the 1984 pilot video, which is outrageously awesome. While I love the film, it would have been really interesting and probably even better had Miyazaki and Co. stayed.
SOooo, because of the info above, as well as my love for Miyazaki's films and style in general, and also to divulge my old desire to draw 'anime,' I whipped this up last night! Dinah looks like stereotypical crap, but I love how Flip and Meredith came out.

OMIGOSH! This is extremely awesome, Kelley!! Wonderful job on ALL of the characters from that film!! I seriously need to get a list of films to see and go find them! This being one of them, of course. I went to read info on it at IMDb and discovered soooo many well-known voice actors, three of which were at this year's Comic Con! Michael Bell, Gregg Berger and Neil Ross!
I only got to chat with Gregg briefly, hearing about a new Garfield show coming out! He's reprising his role as Odie and my friend, Wally, is doing Jon's voice! I WISH I could have talked to Michael Bell! I had an important question to ask him, one I've been wanting to ask for yeeeeears! And you said Brian Froud was involved as well, and yep, I read he was a conceptual designer. He was at Comic Con too, or he and his wife, Wendy, always have a booth in the Exhibit Hall. I got to say hello to him and his son, Toby. And we all know Toby was the little baby in Jim Henson's Labyrinth right? Riiiight!
And yes, I adore Miyazaki's work, too. I can't think of the name, My Neighbor Totoro without getting a smile on my face, or my breath escapes at the stunning animation for Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away... *siiighs*, the man is a genius!
Yikes, totally long-winded here!
