Description
In Pokemon, there was a streak of fire/fighting (get it...firefighting) type fire starters. However, in the latest generation, Pokemon XY, Delphox broke the streak with its fire/psychic typing!Β Unlike the fire/fighting pokemon it can learn a water type move (ignoring how Emboar can learn scald) so despite it not being able to utilize the firefighting pun, it can actually fight the fire like a firefighter.Related content

I didn't know Emboar can learn scald. Β That means Β he's the ultimate Fire Fighter to also fight fires.

This is hilarious! But hopefully the town was evacuated in time before the fire spread, or else the blood is on Serena's hands because SHE COULD HAVE USED DELPHOX OR ANY WATER POKEMON TO SAVE THEM!! YOU DONE GOOFED SERENA!! LOL

I was so excited for my Braixen to evolve because I thought that the stick it acquired was going to be a sword - then Delphox became a wizard and honestly that was even better. xD

WHY can Delphox learn rain dance? Its a fire type!

It really is odd! And the fact that it can't learn moves that a magician would use, such as Ice Beam and Thunderbolt.. It has a wand! It needs to know those moves!

DJHiryu508 In reply to DriftingOcean [2015-08-02 17:50:03 +0000 UTC]
Its not like it has any moves that would benefit from rain dance either. It can't learn surf (I've seen mages in RPGS use giant tidal wave spells) so no water boost damage, nor can it learn thunder, a staple mage class move!
Oh, but it can learn fucking SIGNAL BEAM. In fact, lets look at how wide its movepool is after taking in move tutors in ORAS and breeding, minus the obvious fire and psychic moves, and moves everything can learn like hidden power:
Toxic (every pokemon can learn that)
Shock wave (why this but not thunderbolt?)
Hyper beam (almost any pokemon can learn this too)
Signal beam (just why)
Dazzling gleam (ok, I get this one)
Solar beam (need sunny day)
Shadow ball
That's what? 6 forms of effective type coverage on a mage? (subtracting solar beam for its 2 turn use) At this point, you'd be better off going with a Gardevoir.

Yeah it's rather silly, in my opinion. If you're going to design a Pokemon around being a freakin' mage but give it absolutely nothing that a mage would know, it's going to be rather silly that the design is a mage! If it had a much larger type coverage I could nearly guarantee that this Pokemon, at least in the competitive scene, would be a bit higher than it already is.

Delphox has a point... now why would you want it to learn rain dance... i mean, a move that weakens his fire type moves?... you kidding right?.

You could switch out to something with Swift Swim or Hydration, or if you have one switch, to Castform.

That's because you're probably not using Delphox right. It's the Special Glass Cannon in the Kalos starter trio, having high Special Attack and Special Defense while lacking in Defense. Quite fitting for the mage class. (Speed is also good.) Delphox has the same Typing as Victini and Zen Darmanitan andΒ the highest Special Attack of all starters (excluding Megas), so it is worth using.Β Get some boosts in with Calm Mind (if possible), and then break down opponents with moves like Heat Wave, Psychic/Psyshock, Shadow Ball, Dazzling Gleam,Β or even Solar Beam (for Sun teams). All around, it's a Special sweeper with good typing and tons of resistances. Not that great of a movepool, but if you play your cards right, that's all you need.

I use delphox it dies every single fight that it got the boot and was replaced by lucario

X/Y wasn't too good to many PokΓ©mon at first. ORAS was when they got better moves to use to take advantage of their STABs (Move Tutors, additional Level-Up moves, and some TMs), added moves so that it made more sense (enhanced versions of moves they could naturally learn, like Gyarados getting Crunch or Lopunny getting High Jump Kick), and the rates of learning moves became more sensible (most PokΓ©mon of this category now require less level grinding to learn their final move).
Try again with Delphox. You'll see how good it can be in ORAS onwards. Don't be pessimistic about it.
Also, it's "fainted," not "died." It's unhealthy and toxic to equate losing with death (unless the plot demands it).
