Actually, according to Zeldapedia it says this: "The ghost of the hero who teaches Link his secrets. Some theorize that the fact he holds his sword in his left hand indicates he is actually Link from Ocarina of Time." It doesn't say if the theory is correct or not.

Actually, the Hero's Shade(in the original japanese) is stated in the Hyrule Historia to be Ocarina of Time Link's regrets in physical form. So... he's technically both OoT Link and he isn't.
