Linda - that lens looks OK judging by this image - detailed at 300 mm, good focus, good tonal range - at neat capture all round.
Cheers

Thank you David, i'm more pleased with the lens than i thought i'd be...I thought that no IS would pose a big problem handheld but it seems fine, the only problem i have had is when i used it for a long exposure on a tripod it blurred, but i think that's because its a flimsy tripod....this hobby is an endless cycle of 'now i need a new/better....' lol

Shaky tripods! Yes, Linda, you need a new one. Long lens shake is notorious from tripods. Although my Manfrotto one is fairly robust, I thought I might need something more sturdy. If you see what film camera crews have, like you sometimes get on BBC documentaries, then you realise how flimsy a straight forward one can be.
Cheers

Flimsy tripod is new, looks like one area where cheap really wont work as my camera went over yesterday on the beach in the wind, luckily no damage done that i can see as it fell on the sand, but scary moment

Apart from holding slave flash units, flimsy tripods are really useless, especially with the weight of a DSLR plus large lens. Wind is also a devil for inducing camera shake - resonant vibrations.
Happy shooting
