Vanitas actually has more of a backstory then we think...his goal wasn't just being a weapon...but to have purpose...
Then again I think his full backstory was in a manga or book related to birth by sleep...but I always knew that Kingdom Hearts NEVER have spin-offs, even if they look like it at times.

Not a lot of Kingdom Hearts fans know this but in the novel adaption expands Vanitas's like between the events of his creation and the events of the game. If you go to the Kingdom Hearts wikia you can find it.
