This was the first of a number of recent cross-over illustrations. I considered which popular non-Disney character would be a good physical match for a well-known princess and then I put her in the other character's costume. I do not care for blood and ookyness so this is about a macabre a subject as you will ever see from me. I really don't appreciate other artists sharing their pathologies so...

THANX.
I find it surprising that I am considered "Old School" for doing "traditional art" rather than CG or Photoshop.
Depth is achieved by using a dark colored sheet of illustration board and resolving the image out of the murk by adding progessivly lighter layers.

Yeah i know but i think that traditional is more personal, i dont know how but it is. I havnt done much on dark paper but i should do more.

Y'know, "Aladdin" was the only Disney flick whose Final Villain Battle(C) actually wigged me out a bit at the tender age of 10 (strange, because even then I loved reptiles, cobras included). Some of the cartoon series' villains had their moments as well.
As for Sleeping Beauty...yeah, I have a hard time buying the premise of a trusty steed, shield & sword really tipping the scales against a 60+ ft. draconic sorceress. I'll most likely get around to the rest of your "Maleficent 7" series directly.

Hey, Vampirella...yet another of those interesting 70's characters I missed out on & only know of through the odd comic article, monster-related volume or DA piece. Gotta admit, this is another of those crossovers that strike me as nifty for their sheer out-of-left-field nature.
As far as macabre goes, IMO it's entirely possible to give any given piece some eerie atmosphere without resorting to flat-out carnage...and this piece's necropolis background does the trick nicely. One does wonder what Jas is doing with these remnants...a bit of Feng Shui for the Damned(TM)?

As I recall Vampirella was created for Warren comics as a horror take on Barbarella. This was my very first drawing of Jasmine EVER. I thought that the Persian slipper curl on the boots was a cute touch. Perhaps I should call this PG piece "Queen of the Darned" and say she is drinking tomato juice.
The response to this one has been underwhelming to say the least. I was unaware at the time that (though uncommon) Jasmine is cast in dark crossovers than any other disney princess (wait till you see what I plan to do to Aurora).
