Description
These were pages I created a couple of years ago - after doing Lord Havok - for a Batman mini-series. I came up with the story at a convention in Spain, and was going to co-write it with Marc Andreyko. It was initially set in the Philippines (hence the Philippino bat/vampire demon), and had a KILLER twist.Sadly the high res copies of these pages were lost in a computer drive failure, leaving me with only these very low res. copies.
Marc still thinks we may be able to do it one day, but right now it's hard to see when there might be enough time...
Enjoy!
L.

Ouch! Was it a hardware failure or a software failure? If it was a software failure I know of some software that might help.

oh wow!
Just found this piece via a link from Heubert!
Looks fantastic!
So, where did you and Mr.Andreyko read about Philippine mythological creatures?
I think the first time the manananggal was ever mentioned in American comic books was in Whilce Portacio's STONE.
Would be great to see how Batman deals with such a creature!
Just wanted to share some artwork by some friends :
Iantoy's version of a manananggal ...

And here's another one...

Yeah, even an artist needs to think of IT,....always make good back ups, store them in a safe place (preferably not the same location as the source), and test the back up every now and then...

I remember you telling me about this one over a pint, I was so excited about it - the pages are wonderful - love the use of symbolism which is paramount to Batman.
My dream one day is to write a Batman story.

ooopsie. didnt mean to rob you off of your share in writing the story. you co-writing this wouldve been so cool.
I wonder what inspired you to have it set here in the Philippines?

Sir, this pains me a lot, being a Filipino! Could've been sooooo cool to see my fave character take on a "mananangal",that is, that half-bodied monster with bat features! and it's drawn by you, and written by Mr. Andreyco!
Darn. Some things that could have been are better that what had been.

Thank you, and nice to have the Mananangal recognized! A great creature. You have the largest bat population in the world, too, which was perfect.
Like I say - who knows? One day we may get to do it. I hope so!
Best,
L.

The art is great and the story sounds intriguing--it's great to see a hero out of his element as he adapts, overcomes, and conquers!

sometimes computer failures are a good thing, like when my computer crashes and Ifor got to save, when I redo it, the outcome is much much better than what I was wasting time on before. Take it as a sign
I love the inking.
And I reallllly love the purple sky behind the silouhetted bat, its beautiful

Damn! I love the details on the first and last pages.. and the ones in between...
If the story is half as good as the art, then the compilation must be epic!
How can anyone turn this down?!

We'll see. It would have been a great book for me I think.
