Description Here's another piece from the Marvel pitch I did to reboot the book. Man, it would have been fun! Shame they didn't bite.
This was on the surface a real gung-ho macho nationalistic piece of work - but anybody who knows me would know it wouldn't have stayed that way for long...

Very best,

Liam.

I saw this piece in a book and inmediately fell in love with it and started searching for your work. I didn't knew Death's Head. Β It's a shame it hasn't come to anything.

I sensing a kind of trend here...
I have to assume you are a big fan of the original Death's Head? I drew and designed Death's Head II back in '91 at Marvel UK, so naturally I have a bigger connection to him. The version above was more a reboot - created with Bryan Hitch, who drew a lot of the original Death's Head series. My friends, Geoff Senior and Simon Furman, a great guys. I know how much they enjoy all the love that's out there for their creation. Keep that fire burning!

Why dose he have a different look here. what happened between here and then in death's head gold?

This was a pitch for a reboot that never came off... not really Death's Head as we knew him at all, but a reinvention in the style of The Ultimates or BSG. It would have evolved more if we'd been given the go-ahead.

This would have been nice to see.
Marvel approached me for a "what if" cover back in 1999 that had Death's Head as part of a covert X-men team. They cancelled the book and it never saw print. They said it would have been too brutal. But look at the new X-force book...It's a very similar team. Anyway you can check out the "unpublished" cover here [link]

I miss Death's Head 2 to this very day. Too bad they didn't bite and instead gave us the horrific Death's Head 3.

oh and btw, death's head 2 was in the last issue of Capt. Britain and the MI13 last year, it was pretty cool

Zinjak In reply to deimosmasque [2010-05-09 04:18:14 +0000 UTC]

I liked Deaths' Head 3, the initial story was afterall written by Simon Furman himself, the guy who created the first Deaths Head...and well i live and breath anything that man writes.

deimosmasque In reply to Zinjak [2010-05-11 01:29:34 +0000 UTC]

Yeah and I realize that but really it just felt... off. I guess I have gotten to used to all the later stories and such and felt the Death's Head 3 story was a bit uninspired.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zinjak In reply to deimosmasque [2010-05-18 01:33:50 +0000 UTC]

well , Furman didn't even know about the new deaths head till after he was already being considered for a revival, so yeah its not like furman probably had an idea inside his noggin beforehand, likely having to come up with something on the spot. but it seemed serviceable over all

I loved the dynamics between Tuck and Death's head.
<<

What? I never dreamed about them having a romance and having amazing cyborg baby free-lance peace keeping agents!

T_T Okay, I lied. i did.

How did I miss this till now?

This is an interesting re-take on DH. I like the new color design, but the head bothers me. That was the only thing I can say didn't really like about the Ultimate DH you posted a while back. Just too used to the original head design.

Would definitely like to see Chiasmus in a story, though. That looks interesting.

Damn, this would have been too much fun to see.

OK, so I'm assuming those are DHII/Minion and Tuck, right? Is there anything you might be willing to share about how this would've connected to their previous stories?
Sorry to be nosy...like I said elsewhere, I'm a fan of the original Death's Head, and after Marvel sort of flubbed the 3.0 version, that puts DHII in a much more positive light than I regrettably gave him originally, so I've been trying to get caught up on your boy's story as well, and this makes me REALLY curious to know how the story would've continued.

I love this pic, & it's great to see it full size here.... That's the major downside to MySpace (ok, It's ONE of the major downsides). I really should start posting my pics here...
Did you use any of these character designs in your new 'Lord Havock' series?

I followed the DH II-stuff that made it's way to our Swedish publishers (and that was depressingly little)... I absolutely LOVE the original look of him, and the fact that You are one of those who worked on that comic... I just... wow!

I actually have you to thank for some artistic things I use today... like the way I draw superheroes & such! You've been (and still are) a great source of inspiration!

-So, I bow for one of the art-masters!!

I loved the original - I remember being very inspired by it as a teenager. The Deathshead II design was superb. I have one of my own drawings of him from when I was 15 - probably laughable to look at now.

Cool to see at last one comic book illustrator who can distanciate himself from the nationalist themes too often present in comics.

three years later, and somebody finally will answer you , yes, the first Deaths Head was the king of jumping around fictional universes, first coming from an alternate transformer future, to the "real" transformer present, then to Dr. Who's universe before finally arriving in marvel 616, which is where he stayed till he died and there have been two more different deaths heads' since then
