Description
At the risk of getting my wrist slapped, I wanted to showcase one more page before the comic comes out in a couple of weeks...This page has already been bought, I'm pleased to say, by my good friend and fellow artist, the incomparable and frankly amazing Chris Weston. [link]
I can't WAIT to see this comic published. It's a great read, but it also features my best work in a LOOOONG time in terms of straight, no messing storytelling and considered artwork.
SUPERB colors too.
Enjoy!
Liam.

Re. the gnomon workshop - It's good stuff, but I still disagree with you man. Simple color on heavily cross-hatched inks works best. The kind of art you're talking about doesn't NEED my inks, it's fully rendered digital art - a different technique all together. I don't do Adi Granov targetted gray-scale (a technique I love by the way), I do old school european style cross-hatching in ink to get my moods, lighting and textures. I don't want a colorist to mess with that, as so often happens when it gets painterly. I want them to reveal my inkwork, not bury it. To compliment it, not overwhelm it.
Also - very few people make that fully rendered style work in a whole book, and the comic biz requires a quick turnaround. I have to draw a page a day from nothing. Fully realized digital work takes a lot longer, and can get very muddy.
Of course we all have out own taste! There is no one RIGHT way, just our own opinions, and our own perceptions.
In the end a little something for everyone is best.
Take care.
Liam.

Man, how long do you take on these replies! LOL!
Well, I think it's clear I never rest!
If I only spent three, four hours a page for the big companies I wouldn't have their respect - which you NEED to make a half decent living in this industry. My heroes, like Corben, hardly make a penny from their epics.
This is my experience as a pro and publisher of over 20+ years: [link]
I LOVE your passion - but it's not a realistic way to make a living. Lord knows I tried your way for a decade, and nearly went crazy, got very depressed, and lost my house because I could not afford to pay for it. I became VERY in debt. Things had to change...
As Mike Mignola said to me last year "Oh, you love all the stuff that never made a dime."
Take care.

I WISH I could do all my art like the Death Dealer piece, but that took four days to do three figures, and only one panel. I have three children to feed and would be very quickly poor if I did that! LOL!
No, comics are one medium, illustration another. If I was paid what Alex Ross gets, well then - that is a different matter... But I have many other loves (music/writing/song-writing/my family) and I wish to enjoy my life, not be a slave to my art and my drawing board. Plus - I like change, and would hate for all my art to be the same.
Cheers Ruben.

You're a stubborn guy Ruben. Would hate to get into an argument with you! I bet you NEVER back down or agree to differ! LOL!
Take care.

you know i gotta say, thank you.
since i passed the game i sort of wanted to see more from the characters so a comic is fantastic but the thing is that i probably wouldn't know that this was out until about a week afterwards if i didn't watch you on DA.
i'm more of a marvel guy, only read about 8 to 10 books outside of marvel u. atm (4 of them are batman rip) so again, thanks for putting this stuff up, managed to get the book ordered/subscribed in time to get the first issue because of you.
the art so far looks fantastic, very consistent to the game. only thing that might (and i meant might) make it cooler is if the coloring had that painted look that clayton crains stuff has.

Cool! You won't be disappointed, it's a great read and really pads out the characters.
Re. the coloring - because my work is so cross-hatched and detailed all the texture is in the inks, so texture/painted type coloring looks terrible on my stuff. You really need open, simple drawing for that to work, otherwise the techniques clash.
Take care, and let me know what you think when you pick the book up!
Best,
Liam.
