I'm actually not sure what vexel and vector art is, but this was pretty much a freeform automatic painting done in Photoshop in about an hour - so I think it's one of the two (yeah, I know, I'm a bloody ludite...) Anyway, I think it came out pretty cool.

OK, this has now been identified as definitely NOT a vexel pic, and duly moved on to another gallery by the Deviant art staff. Apparently it's an abstract piece now though!

I'm liking this. Wonderful textures and atmosphere. It kind of looks like a futuristic Shogun/Samurai materialising from some kind of synthetic sheet. Scary stuff.
As for Vector art, I often use Illustrator and Flash as the best examples. Vectors work with mathematics, single blocks of colour - they can be blown up to the size of a house without any loss of quality [link] The result is often very graphical and flat. Different to pixel based imagery as I'm sure you're aware - if it's not produced at the correct resolution it will blur and distort if blown up in size.
Not sure about Vexel.
