Description
Well, this is very nearly it. Having applied some updated colours to the Time War Dalek, spruced up its dome and then applied some correspondingly improved colours to the NDP Dalek, I am getting towards the end of the core Dalek Evolution project - modelling wise, that is. There are still lots of images to do, not to mention several Emperors, a few Special Weapons Daleks, several gazillion colour variants and the Psyche Dalek to create - but with the NDP Drone, I'll have reached the end of the drone lineage. And it's taken me less than a year!
The Daleks belong to the Terry Nation estate, the BBC owns Doctor Who and I own these models. And rather nice they are too, even if I do say so myself...

what do you think of the new paradigm? I think they look modern, and imposing. They also look like the AARU Daleks, which is what inspired them.

My basic feelings on the onscreen NDP is that while I appreciate the reasoning behind them and like features of the design (the gun, the idea of the seamless midsection etc), I don't really care for the overall result. The hunch-backed look, with the narrow neck, doesn't work for me.
Fundamentally, I think it drifts too far from the original Dalek silhouette - it's not a bad design in itself, but compared to the 2005 Dalek, I think it's a step down.

maybe. What i don't understand is why the Daleks need humans, like Oswin Oswald to become Daleks. bit hypocritical considering their racial purity issues.

True, but they've used humans before in a similar manner - the battle computer in Remembrance being the best example I can think of. It's specifically said they 'converted' Oswin because she was a genius, so presumably they were aiming to plug her into the Asylum's computer and add to its processing power. She was a resource to exploit - and unluckily for them, she was too smart to be held down.
And let's not forget - the Daleks down there were insane, even by the standards of the rest of the Dalek Race. It's possible they didn't even really know what they were doing.

I've always wondered, was Oswin still human in body, or was she just a mind in a dalek, opr a kaled mutant?

I think the text of the story (e.g. saying that they 'fully converted' her) implies that she's been mutated. That also fits with how human-to-Dalek has been shown before - Revelation of the Daleks springs to mind. In that respect, I suppose the decision to only show the casing could be seen as a rather coy move to avoid displaying her as a mutant. Though I've always through that a Dalek is the sum of the mutant and the travel machine rather than any one on its own, so I tend to read it as entirely valid to just show the exterior.

Y'know, I've always tried to think of her as just sitting in the casing (such as when Clara does it in the Witch's Familiar), and inhabiting her dream world. i'll admit, I'm glad that the casing didn't open for Oswin.
It was quite an intro for the Clara character though. I think it was a great job.

We didn't really get any TRULY insane Daleks in that episode, did we? I mean, we got one with a speech impediment and another with ballerina aspirations, but other than that and the conversion what obvious indications did we get that these Daleks were any different from normal ones? Why couldn't they have had a few who were screaming or ranting to themselves? That would have been BRILLIANT!

Yeah, but the reason they used that girl was because she was a child, and children are known to have imagination. She wasn't turned into a Dalek, though she was creepy.
You've got a point I admit about the Daleks being insane, but I can't help but wonder if that's the sort of thing happening to that incarnation of the Dalek empire. What if the progenitor isn't as good as the new Daleks say it is?
Possibility, isn't it?

I think its a homage to the original Daleks. They didn't have those slats.

Personally, while I don't dislike the new design, it has lost some of the distinct features your previous one took from the original Peter Mckinstry design. Elements like the raised panels around the skirt and the larger gun boxes were some of the design choices I thought made the design work (especially on your version) and leaving them off totally changes the feel of the machine. As I said, not that I dislike this new one, but to me it could almost work as an intermediate design between the Time War Dalek and the older version.
And as always, great work!!

Thanks for commenting!
I understand what you're saying. It's just the more I looked at my old version, the less I liked it. It was too...wide. The skirt looked too matronly with the extended panels and the wider shape. The bulging dome was inelegant and awkward. It was just...too crude for me. It did work, at the time, but with all the work I've put in on all the previous designs, it sat less and less well with me.
I prefer the sleekness of this version. I just think it works better. And it's certainly a better mesh than the last one!

Did you purposely make the NPD eye look like the wrist bands from Asylum of the Daleks, or is that a coincidence?
Either way it's still amazing work

Not intentional at all, but I did keep the eyepiece closer to the Time War Dalek, which is obviously what the wristbands were based on.
Glad you like it!

At first I wasn't sure about your latest take on the new paradigm dalek: it's a huge improvement on the BBC version (obviously), but I really like your old design. However this one is growing on me. I think it would look better with vertical neck rods, but it's a minor point.
I agree with you that the arm boxes look better for not being the full height of the shoulder section. Full height arm boxes would be too big and bulky.
Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to the Psyche Dalek very much!

Really glad you like it!
I did consider neck rods at first, but someone over at the Project Dalek Forum suggested it looked more advanced like this and, after due consideration, I came to agree. So I ran with it!
Not entirely sure what I'll do with the Psyche Dalek, but my first step is going to have to be creating a Dalek mutant!

This New NPD Dalek is... growing on me. He seems strange, and alien... i.e., Dalek. But in a way I am not used to. Like first seeing the New Paradigm Daleks in "Victory" (and I initially liked them in the low angled Radio Times publicity covers...)
Without the ... I don't have the eloquence to try and say what it is... the way in which the NPD on screen has that circular recession below the neck flares so they project a bit (as on all daleks)... and around the sides it has those vertical flat surface bits where the bands hang on to the collar...
Well, I notice in all your NPD variations you attempt do do away with that. Which is excellent, as I am not too keen on it (it kind of says "we couldn't think of any other way" to me...) The clean shoulders on this model look... weird... but in an Alien Weird way, I think... I dunno. Its cool and I want to see more! I think it improves over the previous NPD model you did!
And yes; these colors; blue/grey on blue. Super! Very metal looking! I can imagine sparks flying of this casing as soldiers fire at it with the Dalek being very nonchalant and unfazed...

I'm with you on the original publicity shots. It was only when I saw the hump that I really took against them! I definitely attempt to reduce the overhangs in the profile. It just looks untidy to have them sticking out when they are so narrow, vertically speaking.
I like the cleaner lines of this version - it's sort of taking the normal Dalek features and smoothing over the joins. As you'll see shortly, I've taken the casing colour a bit more towards the bronze, reducing the blue in that, but I hope you'll think it doesn't look any worse! I did want it looking very metallic - that was one of the major flaws in the original version of the NDP, one that's blessedly been corrected now!

It's kind of difficult to get right with a rounded base. I set it up to be just slightly narrower than the Time War fender...I may adjust it later but I'm pretty satisfied with it at the moment.
