Description
Some small tweaks added overnight but otherwise, this is as far as I got with modelling this concept.
Compared to my original, now nearly 15 year old design, my primary goal here was to give the Liberator more depth. Rather than solid overlapping chunks, I tried to put in more levels, negative space and detailed sections to break up the larger shapes. This meant turning most of the fin structures into brackets and it also allowed me to achieve my second goal of evoking more details from the original TV model. Having curved sections beneath the angular armour meant I could transition more naturally into the globe engine - I was never entirely happy with the lantern structure I built originally and I think this more evokes the 'castle in space' look I wanted.
The Liberator is 2200m 'long'; internal decks would be orientated 90 degrees to this image in case you're wondering about how the windows are laid out. I kept most of the macro details from my previous versions - the large access hatches in the middle, the open 'maw' for shuttle access, hexagons as a key shape - but refined them further and tried to strip away anything that felt unnecessary to the overall silhouette.
I also, of course, had another crack at the Federation Pursuit Ship and that's included here for scale.
