Sakurai said he's going to pare back the roster size.... he also said there wouldn't be any clones. He proved himself a lar when he showed toon link. No clones? HAH!Spots with pictures and color backgrounds are CONFIRMED by Nintendo.
Spots with pictures and NO backgrounds are almost guaranteed to get in.
No picture, very unlikely to get in.
Rosalina and Luma added with red border to indicate the newest member to be joining the Smash Bros. game.
Paper Yoshi was removed because it could be a costume for regular yoshi.
Zelda and King Dedede have been confirmed, image updated 1/10/2014.

not really, not many people even know who shantae is and she' nowhere near as big of a name as Sonic, Mega Man, Snake, Pac-Man and so may other possible 3rd party characters

because she was in the largely popular mario galaxy games and was a well liked character and then she was playable 3D world she was one of the 4 main mario picks and she got in, shantae is really obscure an not known by many whatsoever

totally unkown if they are even going to filled. Sakurai said that the 3ds and Wii-U versions will have the same roster so the 3DS version might hold back the Wii-U version in terms of roster size.

ok i can somewhat understand people saying paper mario, but paper yoshi? is that a typo?
as for the rest of your roster,somehow i don't see all of them but most of those happening (like im not sure they'd add multiple samus's cause really they'd be too similar, or like both dixie and diddy)
but there are things i,like about your predictions: bowser jr, no pacman, lyn, krystal and k rool

Paper Mario could be a costume for Mario. or he could be a hidden character with a completely different move-set.
Paper Yoshi is the one from PMTTYD his moves are similar to Yoshi but very different in how they act. Or Paper yoshi could have the transformations like a helicopter or train and such.

I'd like to think that Dark Samus would be like Samus except with Lucario's Aura ability and increase from damage when hurt. Dark Samus' Final Smash could be "Phazon Overload" where she has 50% increase in damage and invincibility but she has Pichu like effect when she attacks while in this form. So it would prevent spam attacks and make the character a dynamic character even though she's basically a clone.
Dixie is more like a gymnast and a dancer so I think the Caoperia style of fighting would suit her well, she wouldn't be a clone of either Diddy or Donkey Kong.
No Pacman... yeah he was in a fighting game in a giant mecha suit, he can't compete by himself.
Krystal would be a clone of Fox but with her staff there would be some marked differences. The staff fires 5 shots in rapid succession with varying degrees of rise and fall, but the staff needs to cool down for 1.5 seconds.
Her shield eats projectiles and items and randomly either:
Returns the object as a larger object
Returns the object as a smaller object
Transforms the object into a food item
However if an object is already transformed and attempted to be transformed again the object becomes as if it were a bob-omb and damages the defender.

okay, though honestly hardly anyone knows paper yoshi so im not so sure he'd be a plausible character, paper mario sems more likely to me
I honestly did figure Krystal would use the staff instead of a gun, but i'd figure she'd use it more with physical attacks and ranged givingher less a clone attribute, with probly only B and up B being similar
