Description

Chastel and Apollichana

According to the legends of Vale, there lived a beast known as Apollichana. No one knows who gave it that name, but for a time, in a remote village, Apollichana reigned supreme. It held the form and coloration of a Grimm Beowolf, only even more ferocious than any yet seen. Scholars have no doubt that if this beast existed, it was no Grimm, for there are numerous records of it slaughtering farm animals as well as humans and Faunus. Apollichana took the form of a demonic wolf, stood like a man, had the breadth of a fully grown bull, and was as faster than a racing stallion at full gallop. Its claws were constantly sharpened by the bones of its victims, its teeth perpetually bared. The only warning one had of its approach was the scent of rotting flesh and blood that was always in its fur, and by that time, it was already too late.

Hallmarks of Apollichana’s attacks were easy to spot; the jugular was bitten off, the stomach and intestines strewn asunder by claw marks the size of hatchets, and patches of fur could be found amongst the blood. The kingdom leaders of Vale sent many battalions to deal with the beast, but none of them ever returned. Its reign of terror lasted seven years, and many people claimed to have shot and slain the beast. But, after each assumed death, another attack would always happen somewhere else. Logical people would assume there were more than one beast, but folklore had it that it was actually immortal and more of a devil than an animal. The terror it evoked in the farmlands of Vale led to an increase in Grimm attacks, causing more and more people to demand its head and hide be hung on a pike.

At the end of the seventh year, one man aged twenty-seven made his name known by taking on Apollichana alone. This man’s name was Jaune Chastel, and he was merely a farmer and son of a blacksmith before he went on the warpath against the beast. Using his mules and oxen, he dug a pit twenty feet deep, and then waited for a rainy day. He slaughtered livestock at the bottom after the rain, and the scent drew the beast in. Apollichana feasted while Chastel laid in wait, his scent masked by the entrails of the slaughtered animals. With the mud still wet, and the beast’s stomach full, it could not escape the pit quickly enough. Then, Jaune Chastel struck.

For three hours he and the beast did battle, while the villagers watched at the edge of the pit. Jaune Chastel wielded only two blades from his father’s smith shop; a short saber and a long shashka. He had no armor, only a silver cloak. He fought the beast tooth and nail, to his very last inch, until finally, the beast was blinded by the sunlight shining off his silver cloak, and was crippled gravely. The crowd watching had grown, and now even the magistrate was viewing the duel. Chastel sheathed both his blades, and asked for bullets instead. The people from outside the pit threw their guns at him, and he began firing shot after shot into Apollichana’s body, bleeding it little by little. With every shot he took, he shouted out the name of every single victim that had been murdered by the beast, and with every shot he took, the beast grew weaker. Finally, the Magistrate threw in his silver rifle and called out the name of his daughter who had been slain while on a vacation to the town. Jaune Chastel aimed the silver rifle at the beast’s skull, and pulled the trigger. With the final silver bullet, seven years of bloodshed came to an end.

Jaune Chastel was exalted and praised, even gaining an audience with the king of Vale for his efforts. After being offered a large sum of money for his valiant efforts, he took the gold and used it to pay for all the lost livestock and damaged property in his hometown, where he stayed for the rest of his days.

His blades now lie in the Historical Museum in the city of Vale, and Apollichana’s dried blood could still be seen on them; absolute proof that the beast was no Grimm, but something else entirely.

So I've been listening to Powerwolf recently...

No, Jaune Chastel is not related to Jaune Arc of Miles Luna self-insert fame.

WE! WE WILL RESIST AND BITE!
BITE HARD! RESIST AND DO WHAT'S RIGHT!

Long live the Chasseur de Gévaudan.

Hell yeah! The Beast of Gevaudan is a really neat source of inspiration for Grimm - hell, many cryptids are.

This is super well done, dude! By the way, which art program do you use? I've been thinking of making my own WoR like drawings for some fandoms I'm in, and I wanna know what program makes your drawings so amazing.
