Rainbow Dash must have forgot, In the heat of the moment, that only Pegasus can be on clouds.Anyway the semester is over and now that I’ve heartily failed my finals I can focus on pony. Well maybe.

Remember the spell that Twilight cast so that they all can walk on clouds in the episode Sonic Rainboom? Twilight used the same spell when they are going to pay a visit to Rainbow Dash at the academy.

Same here. The cloud they landed on was darker than the untouched clouds. And there were those pink ones earlier that the pegasi had to dodge, because apparently they were "thicker" than normal.

it is also possible that Twilight recast the cloudwalking spell on them prior to arriving at the training academy under the assumption that they would have to walk on clouds. thus when they were caught by rainbows cloud net the cloud walking spell kicked in

That's exactly what I thought when I saw it happen (yeah we comic book geeks are used to note that is kind of stuff) but I supposed that till they couldn't walk on it, it was dense enough to resist their weight a few second before launching them to the sky

What I think it is, Twilight never got rid of the walk on clouds spell from that Sonic Rainboom episode, so they still have it on them and that's why they were able to hit the cloud like a physical item. Also on another note, you forgot Rainbow's goggles in the other panels.

I also approve of the black humour. It was exactly what I was thinking during that scene. I guess Dash must have been terrified the only thing she could try, pushing the clouds tightly together, might not even work. I'm trying to think of another occasion where clouds have acted 'solid' to a non-Pegasus, but...eh, at least no-one got smashed to pieces, so I'll just go with it.

It was obvious to me that if they planned to go to the Wonderbolt training academy, that Twi would have already cast the cloud walking spell on her non pegasus friends and herself to keep everypony safe, and let them travel where Dash travels. You don't wait till you're IN the clouds to cast a spell like that...
Recall in Sonic Rainboom... Twi did things EXACTLY the same way. When they exited the balloon, the spell had already been cast at the ground, and they were able to walk in Cloudsdale.

I think the idea was she was supposed to have made it dense enough to make it more like the consistency of a marshmallow, and that's why they bounced.

"time and concentration"? It's much easier than giving them wings, and Twilight seemed to have had an easy enough time casting those for Sonic Rainboom.
And now that her magic has "really improved" since Season 1, we can assume this spell is easy enough for her.

You seem under the impression Twilight would go up to a place most likely exclusively for Pegasi (meaning most likely there would be cloud that they'll need to walk on) without having already cast those spells before departure.
It's like leaving home to go scuba diving without bringing the equipment cause you won't need it until you actually enter the water.

Since they were planning to go to the academy deliver her the care package, Twilight probably had casted the spell already, before going up, the same way she did in Sonic Rainboom.

In this comic, they fell through because Rainbow Dash didn't make the cloud dense enough soon enough. In the episode, the cloud stopped them because Rainbow Dash made it dense enough to bounce them back up. A "walk on clouds" spell never was relevant, and after they were saved, they were standing on land, not clouds.

If the cloud's density was the reason they fell through, then how come Fluttershy didn't?
And in the episode, there was land, but there was also a lot of clouds, so it would be safer for them to use the spell before they went to such a high place. And they don't need to mention everything, the same way they didn't need to mention Queen Chrysalis and Garble's names, as well as a lot of other things. So let us speculate.

Twilight has used a "Walk on Clouds" spell in the past prior to visiting a known Pegasus settlement (in Sonic Rainboom), so that's where all the speculation about whether or not she used that is coming from. It's not officially confirmed right now whether the Mane Five's survival was due to cloud density, WoC, or both; it could go any way.

I know about everything that happened in "Sonic Rainboom", but I thought it was made very clear by the animators that Rainbow Dash was making the cloud darker, closer together, and denser, in order to catch her friends and fling them back up. If Twilight had used a spell, they would have shown or mentioned it.

Maybe it was both, then? Applejack did mention something about Twilight working on new spells, and there is that whole density thing (I didn't notice that when I watched the episode, so thanks for pointing that out), so maybe it was a combo of Twilight using the spell to make contact with the cloud, and Rainbow taking advantage of the cloud's density to fling them back up?
It doesn't really matter to me that much either way, as the most important thing is that they survived. It's always nice to speculate, though.
