Description
A few notes.+ The whole schmeer is inspired by the cover of Ray Lamontagne's Trouble, which is a great album, by the way, and which is why Sarah has no eyes. She's too pretty to blindfold, so I just blinded her. Just for the sake of metaphor, of course.
+ My shadows and shit are all willy-nilly because it's just a sketch and I save the good skills for the final minutes.
+ Jareth's coat is based off that kickass bomb-leather number in roughly the second act of Labyrinth, but I was working from memory and I jacked it all up, and then I decided I didn't care because I like the teeny-weeny bird skull buttons.
+ Yes, he is secreting an apple in his left hand.
+ I'm not making his package any bigger, so QUIT ASKING, JARETH. I don't care how big it is, leave me alone. Crazy goblin.
My sister and I agreed that Jareth reminds us heavily of the devil in our favorite mythology of him–––lonely, angry, arrogant, a bully. When he meets Sarah, who defies and rejects him, he tries to scare and trick her, and then to tempt her with false treasures. He represents every sin and she resists in favor of the best thing in the world: family love. Is Jareth too far gone to have any concept of real love? Does he just want her, like a toy?
Most women, I'm told, imagine the devil as a handsome, charming man. It speaks to our weakness and to our secret belief that we–––that love–––can fix and change anything.
You know, lookin' at this now, I should have given him some horns. I think I will. He would wear them well.

I like the idea of Jareth being a manifestation of temptation. I would go for it any day. I do prefer to think of Lucifer as a muscular man with magnificent wings. The expressions on jareth and sarahs faces are perfect.

God and the Devil would both have to be shapeshifters to really get the job done. Since we see them everywhere we go. Or, that's how the stories go.
You know, I don't actually believe in the devil, but I LOVE devil mythology.

Utterly marvelous. A lonely and angry bully is definitely what you have depicted here. Any devil that tempts even likes of me is a dangerous (but memorable) one!

That's totally it. The devil ought to be handsome and charming, or resisting him wouldn't be such a moral victory, right?

*jaw drops* This is so....tempting, for lack of a better word.
I love the way Sarah is pulling at the edge of her shirt almost anxiously. Question: is the circle on Sarah's cheek supposed to be a doll's painted on blush or just shadowing?
And am I mistaken or is Jareth looking away at the apple at his hand? Haunting.
I really need to watch this movie again. It's a travesty that I didn't see it 'til I was like 17...

The circle on Sarah's cheek is supposed to outline blush, but I forgot to erase it because it tends to drive people nuts. I love the way that looks, but every time I do it in other drawings, I get a lot of, "This is nice, but what up with those @#$%in' circles?"
Jareth also has no distinguished eye, so I suppose he could be looking at anything. It would be a good idea to draw more attention to the apple, maybe.
Thank you!

Shelter is my favorite song of that Lamontagne album...
not that that's really relevant.
You should depant him (just a jacket and boots), I think it would be "interesting". I suspect the Goblin-King probably isn't circumcised, too...

Oh wow.
Superb drawing, simply superb. Ack. Now I am torn between being utterly delighted at your new streak of top-notch Laby fanarts, and worried at how each new piece just sort of hijacks my brain for an undetermined period of time (and makes me despicably jealous).
Their poses are exquisitely correct, his coat is utter awesome and the detail on the faces just wondrous fine.
And if you like the idea of Jareth as the Devil, hoo boy, do I have a fanfic for you...

There's no emoticon for the face I just actually really made. Let's call it... histrionic delight.
Dude, okay. Stop now. For you to be jealous of MY work for any reason is inconceivable, it's abZURD. Though I'm like, knocked over backwards from the flattery. Also reeling with joy at the possibility of more art/story from you. I think I need to stick my head in the freezer for a quick deflation...
Seriously, Pika, I will totally do Labyrinth art upon your command if you get to the makin' in your story. You're killin' me!
Though I do love romanticizing the devil at every opportunity, Jack White holds the title in my heart. I feel the devil would have old-fashioned southern mannerisms.

Bah humbug. I'm in awe at your clean and spot-on line art. (Pathologically scribbly here.)
I am very near finishing the next chapters, and sending them to my beta. Honestly.
But as to fanfic - and as I said, if you like to cast Jareth as the ultimate Temptor - try this story on for size : [link]
Warning for severe awesomeness, mind-f*ckage and pwnsome, visceral writing.

See, and I envy sketchers with skill. I simply can't rough sketch, I never have. I know it would help me out, but once I start something, I can't see it through the brambles. Does that make sense?
Eeee! *^_^* :vibrates with anticipation: I think I may call in from work the day you put your new chapters up.
I'm a sissy and totally scared of angsty fanfic because I end up feeling broody and heartbroken for days, so I may save that for when I'm already blue, but I can't not investigate something that comes so highly recommended from you.
P.S. I'm working on something just for you and your story. Yee.

Well, I can't pick THE right line from amongst the brambles that make the rough sketch work - which, let me tell you, makes cleaning my animation frames one hell of a job.
Re the PS: ZOMG. NO WAI!?

Oh man, I can imagine. I admire anyone who can do clean animation. That's one of those things I'm destined never to touch, like sculpting. I'd love to see your animation work.
PS. Totally yes.
