Description
You were so proud, Jareth. But the right one will bring you to your knees.Like a mystery of Harris Burdick, I'm going to leave the story up to you.
Like a million years ago, when I was coming up on 500,000 pageviews, I took a poll to see which fandom I should service for my thank-you drawing. Labyrinth won out, which was kind of a surprise. I started this one but just couldn't make it work. I kept picking it up and tossing it aside for months. Well, I recently hit 600K, so I thought I should get off my can and finish this. And you know, it turned out really nicely, I think. I'm really satisfied with it. One of those rare examples of something turning out exactly the way I saw it in my head.
God, I miss the snow.
Some beautiful short stories, inspired by this drawing:
+ To Forgive Is Divine by Lady-Cobweb
+ Sea Whispers by crimsonspiral
+ Forgiveness by Chamaelirium
+ The New Year by greeneyesandglasses
materials: pencil on bristol
music: David Gray, "Flame Turns Blue"

Oh, well ok then! I guess it's cool as long as you keep giving us awesome art like this to droll over.

Oh, you've made me so happy.
I think I first found your artwork through your Labyrinth pieces (my Lily Fox gateway drug, I guess). This is beautiful.
If I may ask, what is your hair strategy? Do you just know where to make the shine, or do you darken it all in first and then start lightening? I love it, either way.

Honestly? My strategy is always "wing it and see how it goes". See, snowlight is nice because the light is super-diffused, right? So you can hardly fuck up your shadows. I'm cheap!
Your gateway drug. ;D Love it.

My eyes tok ages to figure out the bottom panel lol.
I was seeing his eyebrow as his jawline then was like 'well then whats that on his neck?' LOL
I finally figured out what it was xD.
This is beautiful though, the atmosphere is wonderful
Maybe sometimes the things that take the longest come out the most soulful

Whoa! You're right! Now I can't unsee it -- it's like the old woman/young woman!
I meant for them to be pressing their foreheads together, but I thought, what with his huge 80's metal hair, her face would be buried.

Holy cow, it's DAVID BOWIE! I reallllly love how you made the characters your own, they don
t look exactly like the ones in the movie. Which, in my opinion, would have ruined it if they had... XD Really great job here. (The emotion expressed is superb.)

I love the rawness to this, the way that by having it in pencil, it also leaves something up to the audience(not just the story).
Quite heart warming and beautiful. Definitely faved by me.

That's a nice way to put it. Sometimes I feel like such a lazy bum when I leave stuff in sketch, but sometimes that works the best, you know?

makingyouhateme In reply to lily-fox [2009-10-30 15:28:11 +0000 UTC]
I understand totally. There's a difference in not finishing the piece and completing the piece. There are times when a simple sketch brings out the best in the concept and it should be left at that. This is a great example of 'less is more'. Although some people would want the artist to 'add more color', 'ink the lines', and such, it isn't what the people or the artist wants, it's what the concept needs.

Ah, this is so ridiculously gorgeous. I love how the warmth of the moment contrasts with the frigid surroundings. The facial expressions seem to say volumes here in just three panels. truly amazing. Thank you so much for doing this!

Grrr! Darned watermark (not saying that you shouldn't use it, but it's smack-dab right over the center of the center panel. **sigh**)
I think the third panel is my favourite. Any particular reason why you're (probably. Never say never!) not going to do any more Labyart?
P.S. ing this

Very gentle and subtle.
