Description
Labyrinth stole the kingdom of my heart, kicked the doors down, slaughtered innocent bystanders and overthrew the monarchy. It was a mess. I'm still recovering.Flagrant abuse of symbolism here, the basic message being that Sarah owns the King's heart, and sometimes she's careless with it. But how could she know? It isn't fair.
The Goblin King had NO intention of letting me draw him. It was a fight, and he was pissed, but I wrestled him down. Next time, I'm sure, won't be any easier.
This is a Christmas present for my Mom, who called dibs on it when she saw the sketch. (Love you, Mom.) But it's dedicated to , whose art (and especially her Labyrinth art) makes my heart puddle.

LOL! That is so cool I can't even begin to describe. If my family knew how obsessed I am with Labyrinth--amongst other things--they would be like: O_O

She's so funny. When I started doing Bowie art she got so excited, and dropped me subtle hints that I should draw Jareth.

AWE!! <333 I'm hoping to inspire my Labyrinth fandom again... which started when I was 6.
My Grandmother was like "What kind of fairytale is this!?"
and my dad just shrugged and said "Well it was on Disney channel so I let her watch it."
^_^ Not noticing I was glued to the screen.
I love Labyrinth. Kind of a morbid take on magic fairytales...
This is surely helping me begin my obsession anew... <3 SanQ~!!

It reminds me of a certain Mexican painter. (Forgot her name sadly.)
I love the symbolism, as I'm a fan of when people have meaning in their artwork. It nice to see this kinda of artwork on DA more often. (kinda getting sick of CG stuff, but don't tell anyone!)
Also, the fact you have glitter stars=WIN to me.
Why?
I'm a sucker for glitter/stars XD

Ha ha! No, I sort of totally feel you on the digital art. So much of it is so good, so organic-feeling, but too much of it just looks the same. Check out , who works in watercolor, marker and in a tablet program. Beautiful, out of this world stuff.
I totally didn't intend for it to look like glitter, but I like that it does.

Since I've "discovered" you- you've become one of my favorite people. Your ideas, your talent and cordial demeanor.
I want to steal your sketchbooks and keep you preserved in a jar of formaline!

I'm completely flattered, especially that you think my demeanor is cordial, because I think I tend to usually come off as a tad crass and giddy.

Of course, due to the nature of our interaction, I cannot truly presume to know your character. When a person reads the thoughts of another, they imbue a part of themselves into the other person, unconsciously or subconsciously filling in the void of their physical absence.
Your thoughts read as I want to imagine you to be. This imagined (or virtual) you is more a reflection of who I am than you (most likely). Of course, when we can determine that this is the nature of our interpretation, we may then decide to "filter" out our influence (to a degree).
Once we've done this and have reread and understood the thoughts of another based upon the concrete truths of the persons words (these being: linguistic construction, resource of language and typographic errors) then we can develop a truer assessment of the person who's words we are reading.
In light of all this, I don't feel "cordial" was the right word for me to use... So let me say that I think there's a "familiar idiosyncrasy" to you that is refreshing. This is what I've divined from your words and your art.
On the other hand, I haven't dismissed the possibility that you could be a total bitch.
P.S.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year.

Happy holidays to you, too.

I've been waiting for this, I must confess. Labyrinth had pretty much the same effect on me as you describe. Oh, Jareth, you and your tight, tight pants make me squeal like a little girl.
I'm glad you drew them. You did them a lot of justice :>

lily-fox In reply to the-burning-claw [2007-12-26 17:33:13 +0000 UTC]
Thank you. I think a lot of us got creamed by Labyrinth, maybe because so many girls so desperately need a magic escape. And then, so many of us are romantic heroes under our skin.

I agree. I investigated Pika's gallery and fanfiction (as well as a handful of others) and was almost knocked out of my chair. I hadn't realized Labyrinth had such a devoted following. When I first saw it, nobody knew what it was, at least not in my town, and it's still pretty rare for me to run into another person who has even heard of it, nevermind likes it or obsesses over it to this day (like me ;3.
I really need to write a thank you note to Pika at some point, and here's one for you:
Lately I've been suffering a bout of severe depression, and yesterday morning was one of the worst days I've had, ever. I couldn't get myself motivated and I was really thinking seriously and for several hours about just giving up, as it were. Then I saw you post this, and it made me smile. I followed the link you gave, as I said, and a combination of overly romantic fanfiction reminding me of how happy my SO makes me and a realization that I can still take pleasure in small, silly things even when the big things are all going wrong - that brought me back. I felt well enough to work yesterday, yesterday evening I worked on drawing humans for the first time in ages, and I didn't have as much trouble getting going this morning. So thank you very much for posting this picture, linking to what you did, inspiring me, and all that. Sorry if this is a little creepy or emo seeming, but I thought you might like to know what effect your art can have on people.
<3

It's not creepy at all, and I'm so glad to know that I could help you feel good. I've never understood depression, but I understand feeling heartbroken, and it can be really crippling. Sometimes you have to have ropes to get up. This is a very good place to be reminded of the exquisite things we can do when we put our minds to it.
I'm looking forward to seeing the art you come up with.
