Description Labyrinth stole the kingdom of my heart, kicked the doors down, slaughtered innocent bystanders and overthrew the monarchy. It was a mess. I'm still recovering.

Flagrant abuse of symbolism here, the basic message being that Sarah owns the King's heart, and sometimes she's careless with it. But how could she know? It isn't fair.

The Goblin King had NO intention of letting me draw him. It was a fight, and he was pissed, but I wrestled him down. Next time, I'm sure, won't be any easier.

This is a Christmas present for my Mom, who called dibs on it when she saw the sketch. (Love you, Mom.) But it's dedicated to , whose art (and especially her Labyrinth art) makes my heart puddle.

Thank you! *^_^* I did, I worked long and hard on it. My mom is an artist, too, so I'm always looking for ways to impress her, and this one did the trick.

Same way as you get to Carnegie Hall: practice!

Oh, I don't think there's any recovering from that, but I have to keep up the charade to keep Jareth on his toes, you know. ^_~

hehehe, good luck on that, from what I've seen around here once he finds a good artist he doesn't stop harassing her (yeah most are women, though I know of a few male artist that do very good portraits of him too) just ask pika for example... once the mighty GK has got his eyes on you.... you are not free anymore.... and we fans love that

honestly I am at lost of words to express the utter happiness this pic produced in my silly heart

Ha ha, WELL... eh, he wasn't real happy about my drawing him. I hear he usually goads and seduces artists into portraying his splendor, but I had to chase him down, and he didn't want to go. I don't think he's fond of me. I'm too vanilla.

nahhhh vanilla perhaps but so lovely we always want more
I think he was just jealous of all the Beauwie gloriuos pics pics you did before trying to draw him...and the fact you exposed his unrequited lovestory so ...openly, he is a king after all...

Aww yes, David Bowie's epic role of the Goblin King, so memorable.
And lets not forget.... "Head first into the Bog of Eternal Stench"
LOL. Great movie nevertheless.
Awesome pic!!!!

The Bog provided countless hours of hilarity for me and my family. I always imagined the sound crew asking basically everyone they knew to offer their best sound effects for the scene.

Amazing job, I'm glad you did it

An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break. It's a symbol of destined lovers. Sort of like soul mates.

I could listen to 'As the world falls down' all day long. Instant fav.

Again it was wonderful and does wonders keeping me entertained when I get bored. I shall always look back at this. And giggle. For hours. And die of heart failure, everytime. XD

I think for many this was the moment they fell in love with Bowie (when they watched the Labrynth). Great, great stuff!! Geez I can't get enough of your Bowie.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lily-fox In reply to festes-girl [2007-12-25 04:16:35 +0000 UTC]

Totally. The whole story shoots arrows right into your heart. It's what all little girls secretly wish for, I think; a handsome, magical king, vaguely evil, whose power and heart are all wrapped up in whether or not you'll love him back. Ahh...

Heh! *^_^* Oh, he's not MY Bowie. My Bowie is always a little fatter. Just a little. I like 'em that way.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. I love the red thread tangled around her fingers, she really does have the Goblin King's heart. I wish the manga had focused on adult Sarah and Jareth. (Randomly: do you know the Japanese symbolism of a red thread?)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lily-fox In reply to Kijikun [2007-12-25 04:13:25 +0000 UTC]

My favorite scene is at the masquerade, the moment when she sees him standing between several dancers, and he's spent all this time teasing her and frustrating her and throwing obstacles in her path, and suddenly there she is in front of him, and she's all he wants. They're both so vulnerable in their own way.

I heard there was a manga, but then I heard it was rather a disappointment. What did you think?

I don't know the red thread symbolism, actually. Tell me?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kijikun In reply to lily-fox [2007-12-25 05:29:24 +0000 UTC]

I know the connection between them was so strong, but neither of them were really ready for it. Sarah wasn't old enough and Jareth wasn't willing to well give up his power over her to have her.

The manga so far focus much more on the brother and is very...flat. The cover art is pretty but the art inside is just mediocre. I'd rather have a short one shot with art by Brain Froud then this series.

The red thread refers to the red string of fate in Chinese legend. The gods tie a red thread around people that are destined to be soul mates. People connected by the thread are destined to be lovers no matter time, place, and circumstances. The wiki as more about.

It's lovely symbolism that can work for several of my favotire pairings (Jareth/Sarah, Hatter/Alice, many of the disney couples, etc)

lily-fox In reply to Kijikun [2007-12-25 06:54:49 +0000 UTC]

Oh! Jeez, that's beautiful! Wow, I'm glad I did red thread.

WELLLL, I'm sure we as fans can make up a better short comic. Let's try!

Kijikun In reply to lily-fox [2007-12-25 07:38:00 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, wonder how he'd approach adult Sarah? Perhaps in disguise. Though its possible adult Sarah wouldn't remember him completely.

lily-fox In reply to Kijikun [2007-12-25 09:17:49 +0000 UTC]

I dunno, you don't forget a man like that.

I like to imagine that as soon as she got back home and the party was over, she wrote to him (post by owl, natch) and said, "Dear Jareth, I very much enjoyed our last game, and invite you to play catch with me again at your earliest convenience..."

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kijikun In reply to lily-fox [2007-12-25 09:28:58 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, true, true you don't. Unless it was one of those childhood to adult things fairy tales like to use, where the girl forgets the wondrous adventures of her childhood or thinks it was all a dream.

I do like your idea though. ^_^ The thought of them playing back and forth games of wit contently is fun.
