Woody wasn't smiling when I drew this, but it sort of became necessary. Nothing's so bad that a sweet dog nearby can't make it a little better.I'm pretty proud of how all this color turned out. I don't do a lot of complicated lighting (not that this is exactly complicated, but it is for me), and when I do it right it sure feels good. The wave cup is from an old drawing of mine, and I recycle that pattern a lot.
I have a great dog, a Shar-pei named Oscar. He's a total meatloaf, and he's got these big, sad eyes, but he really smiles when he's happy. He and I have had a weird relationship. I'm not a dog person, but I am, at least, an Oscar person. He knows when I'm sad and he plops down next to me. I feel like he knows he can't do much, but at least he can share in my blues. I bet Slinky's like that. They've been through a lot together, those two.

I love Slinky for this exact reason. He was Woody's best friend throughout the series, and was the only one who always wanted to remain faithful to him (even after the incident in the first movie).
You did a really great job with the lighting, and the expressions hold a lot of emotion in them.

Wow, this is awesome. I love the connection between Woody and Slinky. You get that feeling in Toy Story, but I imagine that this is more like what their relationship is like on a non-crazy-adventure-filled day. Amazing job.

It's very gratifying to hear that, I'm assuming.
Anyway, about this piece... I've always been an animals person,
all my life I've stood my ground against animal cruelty
(since bullfights are very frequent in my country, unfortunately)
and I've had a bunch of pets in 18 years. I had a golden retrievier some years ago,
but unfortunately it passed away with a twisted stomach. It was one of the saddest days
of my life, since we really grew attached to the poor fella 
named after my dad's obsession for Pink Floyd x)
Currently, I have a white and brown kitty named Cookie, who is currently laying on my
lap as I type, and she is just the sweetest critter I've ever encountered. We
should have named her Chocolate, because honestly she just melts with sweetness.
This piece you've drawn is very sweet to me, since I love animals. I've always
liked Slinky, and I don't think Woody finds him a pet, more like a good friend, which
is kinda how I like to see my Cookie. She is just a cuddly furball who will stick with me
til we're both old, through good and bad times. And the same happens with Woody and Slink, I'm sure
Woody's face is amazing here, though. There's so much feeling in that gaze, like he is telling us
a million things just with those amazing chocolate eyes. I have no clue why, but when I first
looked at this I thought Woody was feeling sad because of Andy's departure and Slink was
there to comfort him, earning that small smile from the cowboy.
It's lovely what a friend/pet can do for you when you're feeling depressed.
Congratulations on an amazing piece Lily
and the colouring and shading is just perfect. Like someone else said, a great reminiscence of
the TS world.

I'm so glad you like this. You know, I felt silly for thinking it, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves Woody's big honey-brown eyes. And I think whatever happens, his friends will always be there to comfort him, even when he wants to sit alone and feel sorry for himself.

My brother's girlfriend has a Shar-pei named Essie (short for Esmeralda), and though I'm a cat person more than a dog person, whenever I see her she just gives me this big-eyed, wrinkly smile and I become an Essie lover over and over again.
So I totally agree. Slink is exactly like our Essie and Oscar counterparts.

Ha! Essie's wrinkly smile... Oscar's that way, too. His favorite person in the world is my mom, and when she comes over, he'll wag his whole body and just WAIL with joy.
