Description Woody wasn't smiling when I drew this, but it sort of became necessary. Nothing's so bad that a sweet dog nearby can't make it a little better.

I'm pretty proud of how all this color turned out. I don't do a lot of complicated lighting (not that this is exactly complicated, but it is for me), and when I do it right it sure feels good. The wave cup is from an old drawing of mine, and I recycle that pattern a lot.

I have a great dog, a Shar-pei named Oscar. He's a total meatloaf, and he's got these big, sad eyes, but he really smiles when he's happy. He and I have had a weird relationship. I'm not a dog person, but I am, at least, an Oscar person. He knows when I'm sad and he plops down next to me. I feel like he knows he can't do much, but at least he can share in my blues. I bet Slinky's like that. They've been through a lot together, those two.

How incredibly cute is this! An owner and his dog, it's quite the "best friend" picture and I believe you've done it well. I love that Slinky Dog, always happy to see him included in things. Woody seems so content to have his buddy with him. I love it!

Amazing. My dog was like that too. Though one of my cats had that sort of complex and now one of my chickens do. It's weird. To be sitting outside all sad and then one of them hopping onto your leg and just staring at you as if saying "Are you ok?"

Ahh, yes. There's nothing like the comfort a dog can give you just by being there. Maybe it's the eyes that seem like they share your pain, or maybe it's just touching those soft ears or rubbing that fuzzy head, but a pupper always makes things a little better :3 I love this picture, and the shading is total win .

If you watch the first Toy Story carefully, you'll notice that Slinky was there for Woody up until that stunt where Woody takes Buzz's arm (which had been broken falling from the second level of Sid's house) and accidentally ruined his own puppet show. When Slinky finds out that Woody was rescuing Buzz from Scud, Slinky risked his well-being by stretching out his Slinky portion.

I don't have a dog, but I know what it's like to have a best friend like a dog.

I like the lighting on this. Looks like a lovely sunny afternoon.

Slinky has, through his loyalty to Woody, become my favorite character in the trilogy. Hearing him again in 3 brought tears to my eyes, with Jim being gone and all, but the new fella is so reminiscent of Varney, that it sent chills down my spine.

Golly Bob Howdy.

Slink is a special dog. He's a lot like Buzz, I think, but a way older soul; they're both so relentlessly genuine, selfless and kind and brave. They never complain. They'll do whatever it takes.

SydneyPrimal In reply to lily-fox [2010-09-10 23:25:17 +0000 UTC]

I suppose that's why Woody gets on so well with both of them. A leader needs people to support him so that he can continue to stand strong for everyone.

Anyway, this picture made me warm and fuzzy. I've got Woody, Slink, Buzz and Jessie sitting on my top bunk right now, and after seeing this picture, I made it a point to drape Woody's little arm over Slink's shoulders.

IS THIS BECAUSE BO IS GONE ;___________;

That's immediately what I thought. That after Bo gets yardsaled or whatever happened to her, Woody has little sad solitary moments thinking about her. -siiigh-

I imagine there were plenty of days spent moping by the window, and plenty of hugs dispensed. But everybody has mopey days. And I still maintain that it's not goodbye forever.

That's the spirit! Toys can live forever as long as they aren't destroyed (and they can always be repaired) so many someday they'll meet againnn~ That's a very romantic idea.

Dogs are great when it comes to this. I had a wiener dog named Kato who does exactly what your Oscar does. This pictures captures what all of our four legged friends do. It is beautifully done and captures such a faithful spirit.

Ah! ^_^ I've always wanted a wiener dog! Kato sounds like a dignified name for such a silly-looking dog.

PHarold In reply to lily-fox [2010-09-11 00:52:34 +0000 UTC]

The reason for that is that my Dad wanted an Asian name and we all argued we had to pronounce it. So since Dad liked Bruce Lee movies, we named him after Bruce Lee's character in the Green Hornet.

And he was a character. They are lovable and loyal and stubborn. I truly miss him.

Funny thing too is my husband had a shar-pei too! But he had to give her up because her skin was getting too irritated up here in Canada. When she went back to Portland she was fine.

Ooooh, I love this Bob Dylan's song. ♥ I went to his concert two months ago near Milan. It was like suddenly back in the golden years. \O/ I love him. ♥

Anyway! I adore how you deal the relationship between Slinky and Woody. As is the man, as is the toy. :') Unfortunately I never had a dog, but I've a beautiful cat and her name is Trudy. And I love her ♥, even if she's very pestiferous. Well, this is a sort of love-hate relationship. ahahah

Aaaand... the pencil case is really adorable, I want it! ahah
