I know better than to read fanfiction, but it always gets me in the end. There's a good one, a Legion fanfic by The Noble Rot called Ghosts of Babylon , and it's a total heartwrecker. Shot me full of arrows. The story, basically, is that the angel Gabriel cares for this badly injured girl, saves her life, and sort of falls in love with her, which apparently upsets people in Heaven. She ends up raising cane (so to speak) and tries to plead his case before God (who is a dick), and it's all very fraught with emotion and full of the stuff that kills me.A cursory glance around my gallery proves what a sucker I am for girl heroes, for strong men powerless in the face of their love for them. This is the girl, Audrey, wearing one of his feathers in her hair and holding him. She's not the most sympathetic character, but I'm impressed by her determination. She travels through Heaven and loses her shit with angels and does whatever it'll take to protect the person she loves. It makes me think of that beautiful tune, "You Will Be My Ain True Love".

From the first moment that he talks you just have the urge to hug him. The character is super shy, cute, and protective, it's great. Oh crap a screwed up the name too it is Joshua not Jacob. And Holy Cow 6'7" is tall! hehehe More to hug huh.

It's quite good, but let me warn you: it's not finished. There's really no indication of when it might be updated, either. I think it's still worth it, but it leaves off in a hard place. Just so's you know.

There is something so delicate about the gorgeous pencil sepia sketches you do, and the light focused in on her face is amazing.
Mostly I wanna say thanks for linking us to that fanfiction...it's been years since I've read any, and I've never read one that struck such a chord with me. The enormity of the story is still sitting with me. I mean...I was completely blown away!

First of all, your name is so familiar. I swear, I knew a Heather Remaly (sounds like a melody). Where would we have talked before this?
I'm so, so glad, so gratified that you like this. It's always a risk to draw someone else's characters (even though you didn't invent them, you reinvented them). The potential for screwing up a thing so close to someone's heart is intimidating, but I was so happy with the finished drawing, and I'm glad you are, too.
I'm just really hoping there's more to come. I'm sure you get prodded constantly to finish it, and I know you can't rush a thing, but I feel pretty invested in it, and I'm for sure not alone, so. 
I hope you really know how much your story means to a lot of people. My pops said to me that you know whether a thing was good, not by whether you liked it, but by whether it stayed on your mind. This one, luckily, does both for me. I got through the first half before we had a massive blackout for a couple days, and I was left to sit and stew about it in the dark and the heat. I cried (I'm a crier).

I found myself so phenomenally inspired by your illustration that I immediately began chapter 20 that very night, and it is nearing completion now. You were a light to my soul. Thank you so much. I lauded your work on Facebook and requested that your image be made the profile picture of the 'Ghosts of Babylon' fan page. You moved me to the core, you truly did. And I even incorporated your idea of the feather in Audrey's hair into the story. You are right...it is natural.

Okay, I'm seriously as excited right now as I was the first time I ever saw Hanson in concert. THERE'S ANOTHER CHAPTER? And I had ANYTHING to do with it? *swoon* I, I gotta tell somebody. Can I tell people? Can I say there's another chapter coming? Should I holster it? I can. I can wait.
Sister, if my drawing inspired you in any way, I guarantee it won't be the last. Also: it's been a princessy fantasy for years to somehow influence my favorite writers in anyway. Imagining the feather in her hair being an actual part of the story is kind of blowing my mind. I'll try not to let it go to my head.
All those gushy shenanigans aside, I'm incredibly grateful for the inspiration of your story. This is one of my favorite drawings I've ever done. She surprised me when I was done, such a fierce little face looking back at me, and his total surrender to her. The scene in the last chapter when he sees her for the first time since she left, when they hold each other, felt so powerful to me. They both fought so hard and were so angry and proud, and then there they are together and for a moment they're both totally crippled by their love and relief. That's the kind of thing that just sets fire to my heart.

I read the entire thing so far in a night with tea and cookies at my side, whilst listening to Yann Tiersen. And I usually don't enjoy too much fanfiction anymore.
