I've been really impressed with some of the Toy Story fanmixes I've heard, and I wanted to make one of my own to share. This all came together pretty quickly. I wanted to make up a nice cover for it, a nod to the Gorillaz dub album Laika Come Home .You can download the music and front and back covers of the fanmix here .
I don't draw Buzz enough, and I find the more I do, the more I like him. He's an incredibly genuine character, totally selfless and without ego (once he made the Big Realization). He will do anything it takes to make sure everyone is safe and happy. He's the consummate chivalrous hero.
I can't imagine anyone who's ever been in space could not be totally humbled by the experience. I'm sure all cosmonauts have their moments of being paralyzed with awe. I was kind of going for that. Drawing glow-in-the-dark stuff is fun.

Buzz really is amazing. I think I could go on for pages and pages about all the different reasons why I love his character so much, but I will spare you the bore and simply say that this drawing is amazing. Love the glow effect!

First of all, I want to say that this pictures is incredibly beautiful. 
Secondly; I've pretty much been a Buzz fan my entire life for the EXACT reasons you said, oh man. ;A; He's also the more common-sense'd one out of the two, pretty much single handily getting the gang out of trouble.
It just killed me to see the 'big realization' as you put it - that's the ultimate humbling experience. ;A; But he did pretty well after that, tho. xD

I really like the whole feel of this picture - the stars above him, the stars being a star chart, the glow of his uniform, how it LOOKS like him. Great job!

Great job. Nice nod to the album cover. I didn't get it at first glance but there was something familiar about it.

Sounds like you get a great night view! Out here in the islands, the sky gets really dark, so it's nice to go out to the rocks and stargaze.

This has to be one of my favorite pics of Buzz that you've done, ever. I think you really nailed his character, too. He may be a space toy, but he's the most down-to-earth guy in the cast. He's humble and genuine. Every moment with him is candid. He's nearly the opposite of Woody on that account- he's got absolutely no mask or facade, no ulterior motive. The kind of guy who wears his heart on his sleeve, and that's why he's one of my favorite characters ever. He and Woody DO have the determination thing in common, and they will both stop at nothing to protect the people they love. Not that this is anything you don't already know. And it's THAT Buzz that I like. It's why I never cared for deluded!Buzz or Buzz Lightyear of Star Command- it's THIS Buzz, right here that stole my heart (along with Woody) all those years ago. <3

Absolutely. In fact, the only thing I can think of that Buzz wasn't totally honest about was his feelings for Jessie. Probably his gentlemanly trepidation overrode his crush. ;D I'm around sarcastic people all the damn time -- it feels like you have to fight with them a little to get along with them. When I meet totally genuine people, I walk away feeling happier, relaxed. I feel like I'd want to hang out with Buzz a lot.

It took my awhile to like Buzz, but after awhile he became a great sympathetic character. And I think this really shows the side people can connect to.

I like how when we first meet him, we're like, Wow, this guy's a douchebag. But his fall from grace is so complete, and his recovery is inspiring. You can't help but feel for the guy. Everybody's felt really out of place, and everyone's had to realize a dream deferred at some point, you know?

Yeah, I can't pretend I didn't totally cry when he couldn't fly out the window the first time I saw it... as well as the last time I saw it, and every time in between. He really is a great character, I just, (unfortunately for me), related much more rapidly with Woody's initial jealousy and bitterness, and he's always been my favorite. But Buzz is super lovable when he is down and out. It is quite relatable.

I know! It's taken me a little while. Funny, there are a lot of people who aren't real keen on Buzz, even though he is totally goldenhearted and not exactly hard on the eyes. Woody's got it sewn up, though -- there's something about a man with a little dark side, I guess.

buzz has actually grown a lot on me with ts3. i mean in the first two he was HILARIOUS- but in the third? with all his "at least we'll all be together" and "we have to think about what's best for everyone"? How can you NOT just d'awwwww

I caught a last-chance showing at the theater yesterday, and I kept thinking, Damn, spaceman. He'll just do whatever it takes at all times. He's so fuckin' heroic! And he fell to his knees at the sight of Jessie's beauty. Like. Who does that! Ugh. <3 Cue up Bryan Adams' "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman".
I took Woody with me, held his little hands the whole time. My thumbs fit perfectly in them. He was poking out of my purse as we walked out, and this little girl waved to him, so I made him wave back.
