Heeheehee! Ok, so after entering my first =LxLight club movie picture, one of the founders thanked me and reminded me that we're allowed to enter twice. Well, seeing as I was not at all happy with my E.T. entry, I figured I'd try again. This time I would put my human photocopying skills to use and use references (which I did not do with the first entry). So then I set about the task of figuring out which movie. Romance? No, too obvious. Horror? Maybe, but it doesn't leave much room for shounen ai. Action? Ooh, that might be good. An action movie with hot guys. Hmmm....Men in Black? No....something else.... Then God, getting fed up with my air headed-ness smacked on the forehead and screamed, "Good lord woman! Did I not give you a brain before I sent you down?! The Matrix!" And I was like, "Oh Yeah! Thanks!" And he watched in udder confusion as to how I could have forgotten one of my favorite trilogies of all time, as I skipped off merrily to create my masterpiece. So, that's about it. I sketched it, inked it, shaded it with pencil, scanned it, and shopped it. I'm so proud of myself, I could eat a baby! ^^ That's really proud, in case you don't know. Oh, and could we maybe just like, burn my first entry? Really, it doesn't need to be seen my human beings.I give full permission to display this in their gallery.

Well as I said before I think you did a really nice job with your entry. Combining your pencil drawing with the digital. And both L and Raito look soo cool in trench coats and sun glasses.

XD I like this way more than my ET submission. Which is a shame, 'cause I really did like the ET idea, but without references, perspectives are the evil. But thank you so much for the sweet compliments and support. ^^ I'd kind of given up on drawing for several months (might have even been a year), but I keep getting all these ideas in my head, so I finally decided that no one's gonna draw them for me, so I might as well give it a shot. I love the ET idea, I think you executed this one better though.
And I am a huge fan of referance because without it I have a lot of trouble with perspective and remembering where everything goes in the human body. XD

lol, yeah. I guess I just personally have a hard time visualizing things. I mean, I can see an image in my mind, but then it slips away. That's why I suck at math, 'cause I can't visualize all the numbers in my head at once. They get all jumbled up. But, when drawing, if I have a solid image in front of me, that I can keep refering back to and refreshing the image in my mind, then I do a fairly decent job of reproducing it. It's kind of strange, now that I'm thinking about it. When I read something, I get mental images in my head of what's being said. Or sometimes I even just visualize words, as though the person talking to me has closed captions. XD But when it comes to holding an image for a long time, my mind strays to other subjects. I don't think anything I've ever drawn has turned out like I first invisioned it. And I don't just mean that it's not the quality I had imagined, but the overall composition of it always tends to be slightly different, since I can't get the mental image in my head to stop shifting. lol, sorry I rambled. I tend to do that. I get these deep, analytical thoughts in my head, and then I blab them to the nearest unsuspecting victim. XD

Naw, that's very normal. Having the ability to see clearly see what you want to draw in your head and having the ablity to accurately draw it takes a lot of practice. I can't really visualize in my head at all, I don't have the focus for it and I also have trouble drawing what I see in head. As far as I'm concerned there is absolutely nothing wrong with drawing from reference. If I have something in my head I search through tons of images looking for something similar to what I have in my head. I also use the mirror, and pose in it. Or I find people to pose and take a picture. 
And don't worry, I ramble a ton too.

You know, knowing that such a wonderful artist as yourself uses references, makes me feel a little better. I always feel like I'm just copying someone else's work when I do that. And when I do, like you said, use a mirror, I always feel inferior to other artists. So thank you very much for the encouraging words. ^^ I always need a little kick in the butt when I start to doubt myself. XP

It's not copying if you make changes and alterations from what you are copying. If you make changes, it's using referance. That's the big diff. XD I'll use lots of referance pics, Like ones I like for their composition, ones I like the poses, ones I like the backgrounds, and ones that have cool lighting, and ones that have cool outfits. I know that I don't fully understand how most things work and remember all their parts enough to be able to draw them without finding pics.

Ah, now that I can relate to. While I know my art's not the best in the world, I really do take pride in my writing. I make sure I've got all my facts straight, all the grammar's correct, and every word is spelled right before I let anyone see it. I'm also a nit picker when it comes to using a word over and over to describe something, so I keep my thesaurus handy. XP
