Influence: ...From the Shards of Comets! - Less Magic, More MechanicsSeptember 2008
11"x14" cotton canvas and
Rembrandt Series 1 oil paint.
Notes: So, I wasn't sure about the title to this, but I'm in the habit of titling my work after the track I used, so I thought: how is this relative? Well, here's what I came up with: "Less Magic" being the background, ever-changing and fluid(ish). "More Mechanics" puts me in the mind of sterility, cold metals and sharp lines... i.e. the clean edges from the masking tape I used. Does it work? I'unno, but I'm happy with the excuse I made.
This was fun, and it's been too long since I've painted (omgjune). I used gesso, 'cause I remember *gromyko telling me I ought to try it. I also covered it in talcum powder with the help of `oilsoaked before I painted it which created "soft spots" on the canvas. They were rubbed away when I wiped it down with a paper-towel at the end. That's mostly it. There's some mica-powder on there too, but you can't really see it in the photograph.
...and I think that's enough typing, hah.

well considering in my university course I work in a traditional and very textured style similar to this but less abstract I don't know why I don't browse Trad art more often o_O?

The way the backround goes from blue to purple while having the effects of sort of clouds along it is pleasing to the eye and easy to look at. And even though the white lines contrast against this they're not hard to look at and actually quite compliment this piece overall. The simplicity of this piece is gorgeous but yet you can see so much in it

I've just finished commenting on a beautiful artistic nude photograph depicting a man's back against the setting of a room that was all geometric lines. The contrast between the human body and all those sharp rigid shapes is beautiful in the same way that this picture is beautiful. Contrast highlighting the best of the two elements.
Also, this picture creates that cool effect of looking at the point where two white lines against a dark backdrop intersect and seeing a black dot that isn't really there. Optical illusion art!

I edited it with a somewhat more accurate image of it, but for whatever reason I can't seem to get the lines as straight as they really are. If it's still appearing flat to you, then I really don't know what to say. Hah.

I was wondering what was up with the ridges, when I saw you painting last night.. didn't occur to me that there was tape under there for you to pull off.. Looks great, though. Kind of reminds me of powerlines, actually. ^_~
