Description
Speculative British National Defence Rifle. The idea was to design a rifle that could be widely issued to the civil population in times of National Emergency (Threat of Invasion, Nuclear Terrorism, Alien Attack, Zombie Outbreak, etc.)
The weapon had to conform to the UK's draconian gun laws and be simple to use after a few hours training. The rifle mechanism is a re-tooled Enfield design chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. The Stock consists of an aluminium chassis covered by a plastic outer casing. Rails are fitted as standard on the top, bottom and sides of the forestock for scopes and flashlights etc. The magazine carries 10 rounds loaded by the means of 5 round stripper clips. A bayonet lug is fitted to the barrel as standard.

I like this.Very well though of.You should get some gun company to build this.It would sell well here in The U.S. As well as The UK.

a bit like some of the weapons produced for the Volksturm, they had a rifle designed to be produced in large quantities using a simplified Mauser design and using pressings to cut down construction time. -
The VG1 designed to carry 5 shots and the VG2 which had a 10 shot magazine held together with pins and screws so welding wasn't required and a simple fixed 600 yard sight

Interesting. I might think of an adapter for STANAG magazines, for after the zombies show up of course!

seems like the semi-automatic M-14 would be just as good. but this is definitively easy to take care of.
and, well done on the gun.

These are very good, I'd really like one of these things. I know the top one will make a (excuse the pun) killer anti-zombie rifle.

Why 5.56? That ain't worth much on a rifle like this. The good old 7.62NATO would do the trick!

Why 5.56mmx45mm NATO?
Largely because its the calibre that the UK military and police use thus simplifying the logistics of supplying ammunition. It's also easier to train a civilian population to shoot with a less powerful calibre weapon, bearing in mind that few UK citizens have ever fired a rifle before, and that the Defence rifle is designed to be used after only a few hours training.
However your right that the larger 7.62mm NATO calibre would be a better choice if the rifle was in the hands of an experienced shooter.
