The Sterling SMG saw long service with the British Armed Forces and many other Commonwealth Armies.
The Sterling was adopted by at least 90 countries for military and police use, and is still in service in some countries. At least 400,000 were produced over a 35 year period. The sub-machine gun is still in production in India under license.
Heavily modified Sterlings appeared as the 'Imperial E-11 blaster rifle' and 'Rebel Alliance DH-17 Blaster pistol' in the original Star Wars film trilogy.

There it is, the gun that inspired it all. I knew it was a real gun, I just didn't think it was British. Looking back on it though, I probably should have known. Nice work.

No, I've always liked the design of the Sterling SMG. It turns up in a lot of films and TV series filmed in the UK. Unsuprising as it was the standard SMG of the British army for decades.

Thats because the props for the Stormtrooper blasters are actually Stirling SMGs with extra bits stuck on.
