When I participated in the riots in Chisinau (I did it for the lulz), I tried to make out with some chick in the same way. Her boyfriend gave me a beatdown, afterwards.

Technically this photo has poor color and contrast. While the composition is categorically good this photo is lacking overall. Selecting this photo as a DD detracts from so many other very worthy photos that have been selected in the past. As I have understood it, DD's are generally reserved for the best of the best, examples that define the most extraordinary talents of our community. Perhaps we could all add meaning to our mediocre snapshots with a sexy title. This selection has shaken my faith in our community.

I chose not to use Photoshop to enhance the photo. I dont pretend to be an elite part of your flicker photography society. If Deviant Art is your idea of slumming it, perhaps you have found a good home at flicker, with all of those worth while cell phone pics. In my opinion, with or without Photoshop, your work exemplifies mediocrity and the "junior professional seeking to expand exposure" that you seem to have distain for. But thanks for being jealous, thats better than a complement. Cheers.

Jealous? Ha! I have PS's less than 1/3 of what I have posted here. What it comes down to is making the best use of any camera, subject selection, and artistic eye. All skills that are present in every photo I have in my portfolio. Further I wouldn't trade any any of paid photo-shoots, purchased prints or fifteen dedicated shows in some of the most prestigious galleries in my locale for any DD. I have no disdain for anyone and you shouldn't take my comment as a personal stab. Just acknowledge that the photo is what it is. You've done better and I'm sure someday you'll be able to trade in your great Deviant statistics for some nice cold hard cash, thereby materializing and solidifying your online "myspace" type of fame as a real accomplishment. This sort of name calling and fight picking that teenagers do on myspace or facebook is exactly the reason why I left this site. Good luck to you.

Additionally, none of my photos posted here or in any other portfolio were taken with "cell phone". If you just scroll down below them the metadata will display wonderful information about which camera was used and what settings were selected.

I know it's generic to shove that FAQ in your face, but you need to read it. Honestly.
Do onto others. I'm sure if you received a DD you wouldn't like someone to say how much "faith in our 'community" they've lost because YOUR art isn't good enough for them. It's a staff feature, a feature from ^Helewidis ALONE. The artist didn't feature himself, and has done nothing to you to deserve words like that appearing in his inbox.
Kindness. please. Even if you disagree with a choice, direct your distaste at the right people.

As stated... or in summary:
The fact is that regardless of who featured it, it just doesn't deserve that kind of recognition. The photo very obviously doesn't posses the technical merit. The artist does have other photos that are perhaps more deserving of a DD. This one was clearly a bad choice, and I'm not the only one capable of seeing that.

you're totally missing the points, and all of them.
A DD isn't always supposed to be the greatest art ever in the world, it's a staff FEATURE. just like a feature in a journal. Hele saw it, she liked it and thought the community should see it too. End case.
Also still you're disrespecting the artist with words he just does NOT deserve, that is my beef with you; you still don't care that this is coming up in his inbox when he never has done anything to deserve hearing that. ALL he did was share his art, that's all! just like you do, just like I do. A DD is not a nobel piece prize, there's no 'Deserving and undeserved" about it. That's 100% up to hele and no one else, not you OR me.
If you think there are photos more 'deserving' then if you aren't already I suggest you suggest some to her, instead of complaining about a staff pick on someone's art.
