It looks like 11:00 on the Watch, but I thought that Delgado was the Twelfth Incarnation.

I thought The Master was only up to six incarnations so far. Simms is the sixth, isn't he?

Some expanded universe info says that Delgado was the Twelfth Master, and that the corpse like Master was the thirteenth. Who knows which incarnations Aniley, Jacobi and Smith's Masters were.

Delgado and the corpse was the thirteenth since they were the same incarnation, stole the lives of two people, Tremas and Bruce, then you have the mysterious time after Bruce's Master, was granted a new set of regenerations, so the Master during the Time War was the fourteenth, ran away and created a persona named Yana which would be his fifteenth*, regenerated after regaining his true persona to his sixteenth incarnation where he would become prime minister under the alias, Harold Saxon, died from a gunshot wound thanks to his wife, was ressurrected approximately two years later still in his sixteenth incarnation, then was warped back to the last days of the Time War where he regenerated into his/her seventeenth incarnation, The Mistress* where she somehow escaped the pocket universe Gallifrey was in and gave Clara the Doctor's phone number by the alias of "the woman in the shop" and at the same time, harvested the minds of dead people and uploading them to the nethersphere for her plan to convert every single dead person on the planet to cybermen up till the recent twelfth doctor's era where she was supposedly defeated in the series 8 finale. So right now, she is in her seventeenth incarnation. Β You know, this would have been slightly easier to explain if they gave the eigth doctor some MORE BLOODY SCREENTIME!!

*This was a phase where the Master's incarnations in the Davies era were very short, which is extremely disappointing, because the Master used to be a reoccouring character most of the time and the sixteenth master only appearing in two, full stories. Β

*this was the time when the mistress started appearing alot more, but I am still disappointed that the eleventh doctor didn't get ANY screentime with the master at all.

Varying expanded media sometimes says that the Gordon Tipple Master, in the beginning of Doctor Who: The Movie, is the same incarnation as Anthony Ainley's Tremas Master, and others say that the Tremas Master, managed to purge the Cheetah Virus from his DNA, as well as Tremas' Trakenite DNA, turning him into a pure Time Lord again, until Ace shot him in the back, causing him to regenerate into the Gordon Tipple Master, who it is said resembled, definitive Sherlock Holmes actor, Basil Rathbone, and that it is this Master we see in the beginning of the Paul McGann movie.

The Alex McQueen Master, from the Eighth Doctor audio series, Dark Eyes, is explicitly said to have been resurrected back to life by the Time Lords, for some great future purpose, implied to be the Last Great Time War, and some say that he is the incarnation before Derek Jacobi's Yana Master, while others say that the McQueen Master and the Jacobi Master are the same incarnation, that the McQueen Master fled the Time War, turning himself human, thus he aged like a normal human being, becoming an elderly man as Professor Yana, played by Derek Jacobi, until he was restored as a Time Lord, thanks to Martha Jones!

In any case, we will never see ALL of the Master's incarnations, unlike the Doctor, and even then, we found out even HE had a past incarnation that no one knew about, between McGann and Eccleston, so while there are as far as we know, currently only thirteen Doctors, there could be seventeen, or eighteen, or even over twenty Masters out there, most of which we will never see!

TheEdamame In reply to JJWS92 [2015-01-19 07:30:02 +0000 UTC]

I believe that Gordon Tipple's Master is the same as the tremas master and I believe that McQueen's and Jacobi's Masters are different. Β Heck, McQueen's Master could have regenerated earlier in the Time War before he ran away. Β I also believe my hypothesis that there are seventeen masters out there, excluding the bodies he stole*. That would be Moffat's decision if he wants to create more plot twists. Β If that is the case, then your hypothesis might be true.

*I did this simply because I like to list things for fun.

Roger was my favorite incarnation of the Master. Bit of trivia: he and Jon Pertwee (3rd Doctor) were best friends in real life. Roger's death was one of the reasons why Jon left the role of the Doctor.

Ooh, tough one. I don't know if they could bring him back now...
On the other hand, they brought him back (without any explanation) after he'd burned to death and disintegrated at the end of "Planet of Fire."
I hope he comes back!

According to statements made by the production team, the versions of The Master played by Roger Delgado, Peter Pratt, & Geoffrey Beevers were all his 13th body. His face rotting away in Pratt's portrayal was because of the whole "immortality without eternal youth" thing. Of course, Beevers' portrayal was the 13th master with his youth restored. Ainley & Roberts' Masters were that incarnation's soul in a body that wasn't his rightful 1.
