Description
A scrap I've been working on. I just can't seem to make it work. I might pick it up later. The goal was to create something softer than usual.Adobe CS4
EDIT:: Made some subtle changes

I am good with Characters, So some advice if you care to have it! In my opinion it's not working out cause she looks like a Mature Stalwart Strong type of woman' it seems like something she would never wear... I can hear her screaming inside..., i'd either make a new woman to wear this dress' face more innocent and fragile glossy cheeks and maybe younger...oh and blonde hair
if you can not be bothered to redo that lol. If not then add to this woman the element of white ribbons soft pink or sky blue trim' around her muscles in upper arms below shoulders aligning her breasts. White flowers intwined in her hair and she may need a nice soft silver necklace with a light colored Jewel or a white lace around her neck.
She feels the dress is to simple but in my opinion she looks gorgeous . Good Job.

I see art like this (of your's/in your gallery), and coimpare it in my mind to master pieces I've seen that are hundreds of years old and wonder if tallent like what exists today ever has in history? Granted: Technology, availability of supplies, education, etc etc.. But still. You are rediculously good. I mean, if you where to go back in time a hundred years and paint stuff half this good, we'd be reading about you in college history books. Seriously.

It seems like her neck and head are a little off center from her shoulders and torso? It might be that I'm seeing this in the build up of muscle on the left side (looking at her, not her left) not matching what is on the right, but her head doesn't line up where I would expect it to be... a little too high and to the right.
I see that it was pointed out that her right arm might do better with more contrast and sharpness; I would extend that to her side where it seems like her bodice blends seamlessly into her skirts. I agree that if your included her hands that would help as well. Right now I keep focusing on where her hands hit the skirts.
I love the pastels, and her face is gorgeous. Please don't think that I don't! I hope that you finish this piece.

She's perfect. Her shoulders are incredibly gorgeous. Her expression is magnificent. I read you say you cant seem to make it work. If you allow me to say, I think the only thing that could make it better would be to give her balance by making her waist more vertical. It's just a thought. I don't mean to be rude. You're an inspiration

She's perfect.. You say you cant seem to make it work.. She has beautiful majestic shoulders and chest.. If i were you, i'd support that with a slightly wider waist. To balance her body, i'd put her waist more vertical. the stripes of her dress are the verticallity reference.
It's just a thought.. I dont mean to be rude or anything.. You're an inspiration.

Wow awesome. Just watched a movie about ballerinas and now I will never think of them the same way again however....
Love the picture though the colours are amazing.

I love the haziness of the scene and your choice of light pinks and purplish blues. It has a very soft overall atmosphere that is definitely dreamlike. My eye is drawn down the arms and I half expect to see the hands at the end ... this may give it some extra interest if you were to include them. That's only a thought of course. I know what you mean about not being able to find the right route to take a work though. Maybe you'll end up loving it the way it is or all you'll need is some time away to see what has to be done. It has a lovely look to it as is.

I second what Smolin said; following the advice he gave would be a great help.
I also think the placement of her head could use some tweaking. You have the head on very straight while the body is at an angle, which looks uncomfortable and maybe even broken. Try tilting the head further back to fix.
Other then that it's looking lovely.

What you have looks great, but there are a couple of issues I see that might be hurting it.
I agree that the hands should be visible. They would add a secondary focal point to the piece. Right now the arms lead my eye down the picture, and then just off the page: there's nothing there to stop me. Hands resting folded on her skirt would create a circular composition: head, down arm, across hands, back up arm, and back to head. Also her right arm could use more highlight/contrast/sharpness.

Oh wow. Looking great. I love the dreamy colors, the softness and the sheen on her dress!
Hmm, maybe one of her hands could be resting on her dress? Right now it has a very strong downward diagonal pull making the pose a little rigid. Or perhaps her right arm could curve a little more?
