Description Being a huge fan of these animal robots, I'm surprised I never thought of drawing them! So here's the original five Maximals from the television show 'Beast Wars', preparing to face off against Megatron and his Predacons. If you notice, they don't look quite like they did on the small screen. I was going for a more realistic look, since fur, feathers, and scales were hard to do with computers ten years ago. Plus, I tried to keep the proportions correct, which is why Rat Trap is a little on the small side.

I've never drawn a gorilla or rhinoceros before, and they were a huge challenge. Ever seen a gorilla's skull? Man, those dudes must be able to do some damage! Those teeth are huge! And figuring out how to draw a rhinoceros nearly got me to tears. Things went a little smoother when I looked up pictures of black rhinos only. Their necks were easier to draw, along with their narrow tapered mouths (in contrast to the White Rhino).

I've drawn cheetahs and rats and dinosaurs plenty of times, so this part was a little easier. Until I got to Dinobot's pattern. Dinobot fans, please don't hurt me! Chopper-face is my favorite transformer, but I do not like that stripped pattern. So I improvised a little. The pattern doens't match any other Velociraptor's I've drawn, but I tried to make his head stripes look a little bit like the original. I also tweaked the skull to match the real animal. And I added feathers. Like I said, I was going for a more realistic approach.

Considering the size of the paper (8.5 x 11), I'm glad I was able to cram everyone into the page, but I don't think I like group shots that much. I wasn't able to get a lot of detail into each character. Plus, I was trying to get a thinner and thinner line as I moved further back in the drawing, and in order to that I made Dinobot's lines too thick and Optimus Primal's too thin.

Thanks to you, I finally have a greater appreciation for this picture . It's very nicely done. I like the spikeyness of Dinobot's tail. Perhaps you could add some color later on?
