OMG Thank you!! I'll definitely use this- I don't have photoshop nbut I do have gimp, which is basically the same thing. I'm sure it had the polygonal lasso and brightness/contrast. The tutorial is really straightforwrd and I'm sure it'll be a HUGE help once I get back home to the US and leave France.
