Description My previous Dino Rider pictures have all dealt with Rulon mounts. This one is the Valorian mount (Notice the lack of a Brain Box)

The Valorian Kronosaurus provides the Valorians with submarine capabilities. The armoured pod mounted on the back has room for one, in a prone, face down position, and is streamlined so as to assist the Kronosaurus to move through the water with ease. Since the use of energy weapons is not suited to underwater combat, the pod is outfitted with torpedo tubes, one on each side, and has a capacity for up to four torpedoes. The breast harness has a forward facing sonar. Defense relies mainly on the agility of the Kronosaurus, but is assisted by a tail mounted dispenser that can release clouds of dark coloured dye to mask the pliosaur's escape when being pursued (A similar concept to a squid's ink).

This looks quite good, and just how I would imagine a marine reptile being depicted on Dino-Riders.

For such a simple design, it was a little tricky to work out. The main thing I had in mind was that the armoured pod needed to be streamlined so that the Kronosaurus wouldn't struggle when swimming.

And I think you certainly did a great job on finding a balance between protection and mobility so that the animal can still move as well as if it didn't have any armor on it. I'd bet this could work on mosasaurs just as easily.

I reckon it would, yeah.

This design that you picked for Kronosaurus would work well with other pliosaurs just as well I would think. Plesiosaurs would require something a little different due to their long necks.

Having smaller bodies, I would think that a simple under-slung pod would work for Plesiosaurs. Neck mounted laser weapons (Similar to what the Diplodocus had) just behind the head might work for when the head is out of the water, and a back mounter torpedo for underwater.

Good ideas for Plesiosaurs, but anything more specific for the giants of that family like Elasmosaurus and Mauisaurus?

Hmmm.
For the giant species, they might be able to fit them out with a two man, under-slung pod. Hinged armour along the neck (So they can still bend them). head mounted lasers (For out of the water). Due to the bigger size of the giant species, the back mounted torpedo launcher could be more for sea to air, or sea to land attacks. They might also have an engine/propeller to assist in faster movement underwater (Hence the neck armour to stop the neck from breaking at high speed)

Sounds good, this will be interesting to see illustrated. Any idea on what kind of armament or armor for the super crocs will be used?

Being ambush/booby traps. I would think that the Rulons would put most of the fire power into the head/neck of the crocs. Reinforce the spine and jaw. Put metal caps on the teeth or even a serrated addition to the jaw. Pistons that strengthen and quicken the bite. I would also strengthen the tail for a more powerful lunge.

That would be the most logical thing the Rulons would do for this beasts. Cool concepts and I bet the super crocs would look awesome with those attachments.

Planning is coming along OK, but finding the time is tricky
I have a few requests I need to do, but I'm trying to fit these Dino Rider ones in between

I've read the journals where you've listed the requests other people have you doing. I'm working on a Jurassic Park project with ghansen89 that's been ongoing for months now and we've only got two animals finished and a third in sneak peak form along with many many more to come.

I'll keep you updated whenever I post a new one.

Sounds like an interesting project. I love Jurassic Park (I've read the book over 40 times and have never gotten bored with it). I loved the movie (All 3 of them) too. My only problem with the movie though is that there are characters in the movie that die in the book, and characters that die in the book who live in the movie. But what can you do?

I like both movie and book for the first JP movie equally and sort of like the second book over the second movie. Not much you can do. I also sent you a note with the list of all the animals that will be for the JP project. It's essentially like a bigger, better Operation Genesis or Park Builder sort of deal. So far there is a Zhuchengtyrannus magnus, Purussaurus, and a Kaprosuchus saharicus in sneak peak form, link for that in my journal.

It definitely is going to be something once more time can be devoted to it.

The hard part was trying to design armour that matched the sleek shape of the Kronosaurus (Streamlined)

ah I get you the machine part is the hard part, but the organic is easy? (im kind of the opposite, I can design a tank, but not a turtle)

lizardman22 In reply to JaredtheFox92 [2012-03-02 03:17:33 +0000 UTC]

In a way. It's more the figuring out of how to get the organic and inorganic looking like they would work as one.

P.S. Thanks for the fave.

Sort of. i don't know how much you know/remember about Dino-Riders, but the original toys/cartoons had the armour/weapons as mounted artifacts (like a suit of armour for the dinosaurs). In my new designs, I'll keep that kind of look for the good guys (The Valorians), but for the bad guys (The rulons) I'll make it look more cyborg like.
