Description
Mary-Ka and Kay-Ti stood in front of the display case, and looked at the armor. They were deep within the armory vault in Special Projects.
"You want me to wear this and join Kiara-Ne and Bullet on their mission?" Kay-Ti asked the Grandmaster.
Mary-Ka nodded. Kay-Ti just sighed.
"Somehow I don't think they'll appreciate my company," Kay-Ti continued. "Besides, I work alone, Ma'am."
"That's the whole point," Mary-Ka said.
Kay-Ti glanced at the Grandmaster and frowned.
"This armor is the third model in the Legion's now cancelled 'Iron Soldiers' Project," Mary-Ka told the woman next to her. "It was designated the Mk III 'Chameleon'. From what I know, it is a camouflage suit for stealth and recon."
Kay-Ti's interest was piqued. She specialized in stealth.
"An interesting color scheme," Kay-Ti said, "but the Kiara-Ne and Bullet will still know I'm there."
Mary-Ka smiled slyly. She pressed a couple of buttons on the display case, and the armor's systems activated. It seemed to shimmer for a moment, and then 'vanished'. All Kay-Ti could see was a ghostly outline, and even then she had to squint to make it out.
"Impressive," she said.
"The armor's skin has been treated with a special compound," Mary-Ka told Kay-Ti. "When you activate it, it will refract light around you, effectively making you invisible."
Kay-Ti allowed herself a rare smile, she was liking where this was going. Mary-Ka looked Kay-Ti in the eye, her voice becoming more serious than the stealth expert had ever heard.
"I want you to accompany the others. Shadow them, and report only to me. This mission is important to all of us. To me."
Mary-Ka closed her eyes briefly and took a deep breath.
"You're my insurance policy, Kay-Ti. Don't let me down..."
