Description ... and another animated Scene, I keep doing running creatures cause that's the best training

Anyway, I wanted to animate Yang since ages, and I already have a fave image of him, so I used that one as base

again, it's no frame-by-frame animation, it's done using the puppet Tool in AfterEffects and some more other effects and stuff added
First time that I added an animated reflection, also used a dog gallop dia as reference for the movement, hope it looks a bit more decent.

Just thought I share as the people seem to like those scenes, not really much happening there though

EDIT: well just ignore the head, it's looking like that because of the baseimage I used ( [link] ) not sure if I can change that, would need to draw the head completely new, it's hard to change those animations though...

EDIT 2: changed the HEAD and some other small parts, hope it looks better now

Surely
which one? I don't really have a special fursona, I would rather just call them personal characters

AE is FUN, though it's going to eat up your last nerve.. I needed a year to know what is what and it's still more trying than doing

This is really exciting and smooth animation. Definitely this. Somehow, you can make it perfect. I think it needs more attention to the beak. It's better if the beak closed or dinamically open and close.

Good luck

The whole head, including the beak could need some more action I will keep that in mind for the next animation, or if possible do some more changes on this one

Thankie!
I already tried some sketchy-like wings, but that would be some real frame-by-frame animation as the puppet-animation won't work out for wings or at least it won't look really good
I also want to try an animation were Yang is swimming

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Elvish-Designs In reply to Lizkay [2009-09-07 14:00:17 +0000 UTC]

Oh that could be interesting. Do you know how to do frame by frame?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lizkay In reply to Elvish-Designs [2009-09-07 19:13:25 +0000 UTC]

I already did a few animated sketches frame by frame, never really did a wing though
it's a lot of work to do it traditional, might try it digital, that will work out better and faster.

I never tried animating period. However the puppet tool sound niffty I might have to try it. What program is it again. I have the entire CS3 suite.

Oh wow, saw it the first time before the edits and you've improved it ten fold already! Really love this, it's so smooth - you've gotten better and better as you go with these, the "joints" are pretty much invisible in this one!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lizkay In reply to Robo-Shark [2009-09-06 08:30:21 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot!
I think I finally found out how it works at all the mistake was that I used them as joints, but they are "bending points" so you have to place them different, if you want to have the feeling of real joints added, a lot of toying around, but it's fun

Robo-Shark In reply to Lizkay [2009-09-06 23:56:57 +0000 UTC]

It sounds like a really fun program to work with! I hope someday I'm making work half as beautiful as yours, you've done a fantastic job

Lizkay In reply to Robo-Shark [2009-09-07 19:14:18 +0000 UTC]

AE is a great tool, yet, it can kill your last intact nerve and it's rather complex at the beginning...
but still, it's fun, I hated it at the beginning and now I really love it

Falconsong [2009-09-04 23:32:30 +0000 UTC]

Yaay! It looks awesome. Much better than the last one. Only crit I have is that head still looks funky. He keeps looking at the ground when his head should be focused on where he's running- forward. (It like is like a sin wave with the nose leading and the motion following back to the tail. The body and the tail follow that motion and look good but the head doesn't- if that makes any sence --* Maybe look at the Wolf's Rain ending.) Other than that this looks loads better than your last animation. Well done!

Lizkay In reply to Falconsong [2009-09-06 08:31:19 +0000 UTC]

Thankie!
Hmm, the head is out of balance concerning the body as a whole, I do tried to get rid of that but I seem to fail at finding the real timing, if I have time I might try to overwork that part

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Falconsong In reply to Lizkay [2009-09-07 00:21:09 +0000 UTC]

I think part of the problem has to do with the head being part of the neck movement. It needs to rotate at the base of the head instead of following the neck movement. That might help making your timing look better and would probably fix why it's looking downard at the ground instead of in the direction he's supposed to be running.

I'm pleased. ^^ I love seeing peoples art and animation evolve. It's awesome. (Even more awesome when I loved their art before hand!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lizkay In reply to Falconsong [2009-09-09 05:34:03 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I think I really see what you mean
I think it would also help a lot to take the tip of the beak as reference, for example, make it always point forward, and move the head the way that it fits to the neck/back but rotates in a way that he still keeps looking forward.
Not sure if I can edit much more in this animation, as the file is already in a big chaos but I will definitely keep it in mind!
