Description
A character whose design I based loosely off one of my favorite monster myths. He eats people D: but despite that can be a very friendly guy.I hope he looks okay. I'm kinda nervous about the anatomy
done in painter 9.5
Edit: okay... tried fixing a couple things, including the too short legs. Some people have asked which monster he was inspired by too. It's an African ogre called the Sasabonsam. some of the elements I left out, like the second pair of feet and the long hair, but the original is indeed red and unnaturally tall. He sits up in trees and snatches up victims as they go by, then sucks up all their blood. Apparently you could tell which tree he was in because the ground it stood on would be soaked in red. cool, huh?

This is amazing.
It makes me think of the guy in Pan's Labyrinth
does he eat fairies?

Your art scares and fascinates me... I love it!!!
I don't know where I heard it from, but I think there's some African monster whose horrific trait is that it gets quieter as it gets closer to you and louder as it goes away... So when it's dead quiet, that's when you know you're in trouble.

Sasabonsam? Never heard of him. Care to elaborate some more origins? I fell on some Shadowrun references but nothing half consistent as I'd wish it to be.
I simply love him. The attitude, the full brown eyes, the stance. Kindness and happiness mixed with an act widely considered ignominious. And yet we eat steak... hmmm. It's always a pleasure to watch your deviations pop in the watch. I love the depths and wonderings your drawings summon in me.

Ahahaha~
I'm taking that face to my grave.
About the myth; wouldn't people tend to avoid the trees soaked in blood? Though I'm sure as long as he gets a good meal he doesn't much care.

hi, first I gotta say, in gnomon, we love you lizzy.
your painting is beautiful needless to say, design, shadows and coloring are amazing.
I am a 3d rigger. so I do skeletons for 3d models most of the time .
since you are up for advanced critique, I wanna point out some things. you are going for a non proportional humanoid so I skip anatomy. I will just speak of symmetry, and perspective.
[link]
1-2)your forearms are not equivalent in length. the one that is on the loose is too long. and the perspective of the elbow and the hand is different.
the elbow you drew looks like the forearm is nearly perpendicular to the other leg. so if you wanna keep the elbow position your arm should go like the 1.
if you want to keep the hand position, you should change the elbow orientation and the elbow should go a little bit higher. but still it should be shorter.2
3-4)his upper legs are not equivalent. the blue lines have the same length and the magenta lines have the same length.
right leg is slightly longer than the left.but it should look shorter in fact. because it is in perspective and it is behind.
I hope I am helpful rather than annoying.
have a nice day.

heheh..I think that has gotta be the most specific critique I've ever gotten on this site thanks for it, symmetry has always been my greatest adversary. I'll be sure to fix everything up a bit later.
Thanks too for the kind words though I gotta ask... what's gnomon?

thanks for the kind words
well, I have an encyclopedia by Carol Rose I like to read, but mostropedia.org is also cool, and you can do a search on yahoo or something to find other sites. Most descriptions tend to vary widely though, aside from the tree bit.

Anatomy seems stylized, not really any issues there. I see something strange with the plane his feet are on compared to the plane the chairs legs are on. It looks a little off to me. Maybe it's just me.
The character is frightening interesting. I could see having a compelling conversation with him, even share a few laughs, all the while knowing he's probably going to eat me.

Hmm... is this why people thought my tea-related picture had the charrie drinking blood? No, wait, nevermind -- mine's older than yours and not nearly as... awesome. x3
Still got the floaty-ish chair and tea thing, though.
... *too stupid to give a proper crit like everyone else, and so just sits and stares and wonders if she should make more tea things*

its a really nice monster idea. about the anatomy, i think there might be some lil problems but at the same time it gives a "personnality" to the monster..a style :3
its really cool, i love the colors
