Description Anyone that's a fan of The Legend of Zelda would recognize this image. I tried to recreate the artwork from Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past showing the Master Sword in its stone pedestal deep within the Lost Woods.

For years I tried to recreate this scene off and on in 3D, pencil sketch and other mediums without much success (or rather, to my liking). I think I've finally done it.

You can see more detail and info for the stone pedestal and sword here: [link]

-edit-
I know more recent versions of the Master Sword have a blue hilt. In the original art the handle was red.

Thank you! It's almost difficult to believe that I made this almost nine years ago. I'm glad that it's still getting attention.

Awsome Work dude

Hey has anyone wondered why in a link to the past the Master sword is White?

I never understood that, but I think I have an Answer to it.

okay a link to the past is the First game in the Decline Timeline (Were link failed and his Bloodline ended.) this caused the Master sword to turn White.

LizzyGibbs3D In reply to Zeusthefox [2013-08-22 23:07:56 +0000 UTC]

In A Link to the Past, the color of the sword might be because of the color pallet used by 16 bit games. The Fighter Sword (given to Link by his uncle) is white with a blue handle. The Master Sword that you find in the Lost Woods has a blue blade with a red handle.

Anyway thanks for posting! It's nice to see that people still like this image.

From what I've seen, his sword grows and shrinks depending on the situation.

This is an incredible piece of work. It almost casts the illusion that you are actually there, seeing through Link's eyes. Amazing!

LizzyGibbs3D In reply to CT-Manga [2013-03-21 23:29:33 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

When I did this, I mostly wanted to do a more 'realistic' version of the book art from A Link to the Past. What surprises me is that I did this five years ago and it's still getting some attention.

LizzyGibbs3D In reply to FireWolf2012 [2012-08-13 15:15:17 +0000 UTC]

I did this in two different 3D programs with post work in Photoshop. Some people can do amazing things with what ever art medium they prefer. Be it traditional oil paints on canvass, or the digital medium with the latest version of Illustrator or Photoshop and a tablet PC.

It is nice that after four years, this image still gets attention. Thank you!

Thank you! At the time, I tried to match the original artwork as closely as possible. In my later images I take my own perspective and add my unique design style to the sword.

Not enough people play that game. I've finished it twice, and I've been searching for amazing fan art like this since... well, a while.
Congratulations, and this is amazing, btw.

LizzyGibbs3D In reply to AmatureHunter [2012-01-20 19:42:08 +0000 UTC]

It is an old title and most likely available on the Virtual Console. As far as Zelda games go, it's one of the best.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AmatureHunter In reply to LizzyGibbs3D [2012-01-21 16:28:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. But it's sooo long. I mean, it's probably one of the longest Zelda games out there, because to truly finish, you have to get all the items (and they're spread across Hyrule and super hard to find) and save Zelda (because she's stupid and always gets captured)

Isn't the sword blue? Either way I like this design better.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LizzyGibbs3D In reply to JaceNebular [2011-11-17 12:05:37 +0000 UTC]

It is blue in more recent versions of the game. For the art piece this image is based on, it is red.

For a blue version, feel free to explore my gallery!

Beautiful. The Lost Woods music started playing in my head the moment I saw it. You really captured the mood perfectly here; I feel like I'm approaching the sword for the first time.

LizzyGibbs3D In reply to orchard [2011-10-03 01:18:43 +0000 UTC]

I remember when I first played the game. I was astounded at the colors, the music, just about everything about it. At the time the SNES and this game in particular was amazing. It's stuck with me for all of these years.

While this rendering was done a few years ago, it's good to see that it still draws attention.

Leo195 [2011-09-25 23:29:35 +0000 UTC]

Never understood y someone would just leave the sword in the woods even though like, a dozen people in the first town knew it was somewhere inside.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LizzyGibbs3D In reply to Leo195 [2011-09-26 04:54:29 +0000 UTC]

If you follow what is supposedly the timeline for all of the games, the sword was planted in the Temple of Time (Ocarina of Time) and that the temple building crumbled over the centuries (Twilight Princess) to where the the woodland just grew around it.

Or you could just go with the more simple answer of, "It's magic!"

Really, if you didn't have to fight a bunch of monsters and collect ancient relics every game, then it'd be easy to just pluck it out of the stone and declare yourself a king or something.

Well, first you need to successfully navigate through three treacherous, monster-filled ruins and acquire a sacred item from each. And then...

I'm glad you liked it!
