Ohhh I think this kind of coloring can be done on Photoshop too! so, don't worry if you don't have SAI ^^

Ohh.. But Sai's transparent BG is not like the one in
Photoshop (full of 'squares') 
It's white, but when you save the file in PNG,the background is transparent ^^

This helped a lot! Thank you! However when I use the Magic Wand Tool, it pops up as a selection and I cannot color anywhere else, even when I get rid of the selection. Is there any way to get out of it?

I use just 2 or 3 layers for shadows and highlights.. Most artists
use lots of layers, textures and brushes in their coloring.
