Well, this is actually the first render I started using a background generated by my forester code project I've been working on. It just recently finished.
I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.
I'll try to answer some questions ahead of time.
The renderer is Povray 3.6.
There are 4767 plants in the scene.
They are placed based on a fractal-like algorithm.
Povray may not be fast, but it is memory efficient. One copy of each plant type is loaded into memory and referenced by the scene file.
Don't ask how long it took to render. (The answer is days.....)

Wow, it turned out great! That's a long time to wait. I think your forester code does a great job. Love those red 'shrooms. The fairy's wings are also great!

And this is only the first generation of the code. I hope to eventually ad terrain variation, water, and water plants to the generator. We'll see how much energy I have to pursue all that though.
