The lettered pattern is a helper pattern. Its only purpose is to show what the texture mapping looks like.

You wouldn't happen to know of any good tools for doing it would you?

i just use uvmapper. i tried using the uvmapping tool built into hexagon. i have yet to map anything successfully with it.

I must say i'm liking this hair model, it's far better than anything I could do.
Which Poser are you using? 5? 6? 7? If i'm not mistaken the image to the left is the preview mode, yet it looks better than the preview mode in 6.
Also, were there any characters you were thinking of when modelling this? For some reason i'm reminded of Tifa Lockheart (I do hope Kagi finishes that costume...;_.

Poser 7.
Yep, the one on the left is the preview mode. There is an option under the render tab called antialias document. This is nice for exporting images from the preview window as it really cleans things up. this feature is in poser 5 and 6 as well.
I am thinking about fitting it to Aiko3 as well. Kagi? Tifa?! Where do I find this?
I found the whole UV mapping thing far more painful than making the model.

Back at AG Studio (you should join there sometime, once it's active and on a realiable server again), a member called Kagi (a really skilled modeller) was working on a couple of projects. IIRC, he was working on:
~An Aiko3 Skimpy Sci-Fi suit.
~Football clothes for Aiko3 (then fitted to Hiro3).
~A new Kasumi costume for Aiko3, plus hair.
And
~A really accurate Tifa Lockheart outfit, plus hair.
IIRC, he abandoned all Poser projects due to wanting to work on non-poser stuff (or so he could learn how to do it all himself rather than relying on others). His Tifa outfit was utterly brilliant, and I was eagerly anticipating it (I even made a Tifa with AD and Aiko3). But sadly, no dice. (this is where the 'sadness' comes in)
If you want more info, ask Ken, he was the beta tester (lucky sonova-)...

I have an account at AGStudio! My ID is Lokai there. Glad to hear it is active again. It was dead for a long time.
Oh man... Ken is lucky.
Do you know which forum the Kagi threads are under?

It's not exactly active at the moment due to a poor server which means many people can't get through. It's also buggy right now, I made a new topic talking about the recently hacked splash page three times now and it has yet to actually appear.
Here are links to each of the Kagi threads.

Currently the forum's gone and 404'd on me so I can't get the sci-fi clothes link, and you may have trouble seeing the topics.

It is a shame he quit working on these. They were looking really good. I was really impressed with Kasumi's outfit.

Some of us don't have the high-priced spreads like Maya and Max and have to use what we have, like Poser. XD
The hair looks faboo! Even if for toon work, a texture works better than a shader node, I think.

I know!
I use free software for my renders (Poseray, Povray, ang Megapov). Given the fact I pay for Poser, I just expect the render engine to work better. I have a long history of crashing Poser's render engine.....

Ditto, and crash Vue 6,too. They all suck. If I could afford a new computer and put V6I on it, maybe I'd be happy. Maybe not. I want a magic renderer, I guess!

Poseray doesn't seem to be able to import lights and camera information from Poser 7 files...
As for crashing Firefly, it's not too hard. I'm doing it about once a week... ^_^

And Poser can do decent renders too...

It can. It just runs into serious problems when you try to start defining more advanced materials and also when you cross the 1Gig memory boundary. I haven't done any kind of serious render work in Poser's render engine for a long time because I kept crashing it.

Judging by the helper texture it looks pretty good to me. Part 4 would be to actually paint some hair textures. That part I never done myself.

Amazing job on everything - besides the hair (which rocks, nevertheless). And I don't see any problems with the UV mapping. Don't Maya or Max have better [aka, more realistic] rendering capabilities? I guess I just don't like Poser... meh.
