What if you have a design that requires dull-looking boots? Sorry. U-U Stockings seem too shiny. Also, I worry they would rip too easily after too much wear? Doubling up seems a bit hard when trying to pull them on, too...

You can totally double them up, you just do pull 1 stocking on at a time when first making them. As for the shine, I guess keep an eye out for non shiny versions? I've never found stockings to be very shiny tbh with you though

I would probably use opaque stockings/tights since they tend to be thicker and less shiny. Especially if they're knit.
They'd probably be a bit harder to get over the shoe, but they should be more durable due to the thickness.

One question, though; Wouldn't felt also be slippery to walk on?

I've found it to be quite secure when walking on carpets and laminate floor. Its more secure then the stocking is! However if I am worried about slipping I sometimes put small dots of hotglue on the felt to act as rubber grip. Never slipped yet
