Description
Heya guys! Slowly uploading more artOkay honestly, I haven't actually drawn in such a long time. Nothing's really happened since work and the steam summer sales got in my way. And ohh boy, when games click with me, they really click xD That partially explains my lackluster dedication to carrying out my plan of drawing a piece a week this summer. Ohh well... Probably gonna die in school this September BUT I am feeling an art craze coming along, so there's that. When it hits, you'll know

There's something about page editing/how things look that just gets you addicted to it xD also spent hours thinking about the contents of the journals lol. You're right though. No harm done in doing so! Heck, I'd be wasting the time I put in, setting up the commissions info in the first place HAHA
Yeah. It's upsetting when people you love differ against something you love/want to do. What exactly do your parents disagree with tattoos? The community? Or maybe they get a sinister vibe? You'd seriously make a great tattoo artist. There's so much potential! (I'm pretty sure that's not for me xD )
As for digital, its kinda sad the future art careers lies in this area. (not saying traditional doesn't have its place, but just a minority) if you ever get tired of your style, you know where to look xD
Well if money is not a huge nessesity, just take the time you need to find a better opportunity. Maybe you'll I find one you really love and weren't expecting to? Do ever get that feeling that the work (work in general) you do has to have some sort of meaning? Like taking a job crunching numbers and statistics would be pointless compared to one where you design buildings for the homeless. Idk why I thought of mentioning this tbh and thank you so much! (: I'm glad to offer my thoughts
First, I need to start posting art there xD you're too kind with your words
Ahh the two places are well known for Aboriginal culture! No wonder why the presence of first Nations art was in the galleries. I think the places you need to go to find these master oil paintings are private collections :/ I went to a privately owned museum in Taiwan AND OH MY GOSH. THOSE. THOSE WERE MASTERPIECES!
Ohh for sure! I'll need to be more connected with the community xD also, I'll need to build my art gallery/portfolio then

I agree, designing pretty commission sheets and journals is so fun XD it takes so long though, I've spent so many hours of my life designing them haha
I mean once you have that info you can always edit it and you also have it for when you want to reopen them again ^^
I'm honestly not sure what they don't like about it all tbh, they never really elaborated on it - I think they wanted me to become a doctor or something rather than going into art :') thankyou though, I'll have a look into the places I was recommended to see what they can offer in the way of work experience and things ^^
Yeah I agree, almost everything is done digitally now and there are very few artists who work solely in traditional art, so its much harder to find a job in the art world now :') I'll have to look into all of this though
Yeah I don't desperately need a job at the moment so I'll just keep looking I agree though I think I'd rather be doing something that actually makes a difference than something that doesn't really make anything better in the world. You're very welcome btw ^^
Haha XD just post the next drawing you do on there, you'll quickly get into the habit of posting ^^
I've been to several art galleries in the UK on art trips in the last year, there were lots of those master oil paintings in there, and I don't think they were privately owned collections ^^ how was Taiwan though? It sounds really cool, I'd love to go some day
I guess you have time to build it up by then though, good luck anyway ^^

Aaaand you got me back messing with my commissions sheet... How could you! XD and that's exactly it. The info hardly changes once you've got it ironed out, but the formating, that's a different story
Aww that really sucks. I actually attended a workshop thing on art careers and much to the stigma that art doesn't make money, it's a complete lie! It's a shame art gets put in this misunderstanding that it's not a real career. Maybe try throwing the topic back up to them? I know they'll be willing to hear you out, and maybe you'll be able to do internships at the tattoo parlors!
Ohh yes definitely. Sure, there are applications for traditional art in creative careers, but the bulk of the work will be done digitally. Perhaps like character design. That could be done traditionally, until they want a more refined design.
You never know, maybe you'll be able to snatch a job doing art of some sort? When you're not working, you've got all the time and chances to look around! Albeit it might be a bit harder finding a job fitting Cinderella's glass shoe.
Done! XD I'm scared of instagram. All the good artists are on there. And dude. The way you take the photo of your art MATTERS. And it's like crazy important. crazy good art + poor photos ≠ more followers. Mediocre art + good photo skills = followers LOL that's the maximization formula
Dude so lucky. Id go and study the crap out of those paintings xD Your country actually has artistic culture unlike this art dump I live in HAHA (okay it's not thaaaat bad, and my perspective might be in the minority) ohh yeah Taiwan is a land filled with culture. (It lies all in the food) I'm surprised I didn't become fat there HAHA
Thanks!

Hehehe XD I'm just about to start working on my commissions sheet too so I guess I'm in the same position as you XD I spend forever doing the formatting though XD
I really hate the stigma around art careers that they aren't really careers and don't make money, because it's just not true at all. I think they're much better about it all now than they used to be (maybe because I'm selling drawings and getting commissions they've changed their mind a bit) but I still don't think they're 100% keen on the idea. I'll definitely make sure to mention it to them soon ^^
Yeah rough sketches and initial designs might be able to be done traditionally but I'll have to look into it
Who knows, I'll keep an eye out for any opportunities that I see around near me ^^
Oh gosh taking good photos of your art is soooo hard to do, I usually take around 30-40 photos of my drawings until I finally find one I'm happy with. That's the plus side of digital stuff, no need to spend ages getting a good photo of it XD
Its probably just a matter of perspective tbh, although you should come over to the UK some time there are some great galleries here ^^
Oh yeah any country with good food is worth visiting (brb buying my plane tickets XD)

That makes two of us xD (and probably the majority of people making commissions sheets lol) Right now, I'm stuck with what examples to show. The problem is that a lot of my examples are from a year ago and it just doesn't reflect what I am able to do now. And the fact I don't have many recent examples that fit my commissions sheet means I'll either have to do more drawings or remake the commissions sheet. Ohh what a terrible struggle! (not really HAHA)
Yeah. Parents do one of 3 things. They tell you to give up on it and become a doctor or something, or they say its okay to do art, but study something that makes money as an insurance, or go all out in art and see where that takes you. My parent's both coming from an Asian background, you could assume which stance they took. But to my surprise, my mom told me to do it! (she's the best) Dad didn't really say anything, so I'll just take it as a yes from him too xD My mom happened to attend some of these information workshops which greatly informed her about the reality of art being a career. I'm positive if your parents knew the same, they'd tell you to go all the way as well, especially seeing that you're already making money from it!
The more you know, the better (:
Oh my gosh same! There's just so many variables to play with like the lighting. Should I pull the curtains all the way open? Partially open? Should I use my lamp with the natural light? Should I use the lamp by itself? and then there's camera settings too. Do I like this filter? Is there too much contrast? Ohh what about the exposure? How should I place my pencil in the most artistic way? IT NEVER ENDS!!! And eventually you come up with all these photos and you can;t decide on one It's the worst struggle in art ever xD
If either of us ever goes somewhere in a relatively close proximity to each other, we must meet up xD Jeez why does the world have to be so big!

Yeah that makes sense, maybe wait till you have some more examples to display before completing it, that's what I'm doing my main issue is that I can't decide what commissions to offer and what prices to offer them for, AHHH THE STUGGLE!
Yeah my parents are currently taking the 'its ok but you need a backup as well' approach. I'm so glad your parents are being supportive of your ideas and goals though, that's great! I'll try and get my parents to visit some of those workshops (if I can find one in our areas :') )
Ahhh I know the struggle! My advice would be - use natural daylight as the light source, maybe place the drawing near a window so its getting plenty of light (although too much light can make darker tones in the drawing reflect the light so maybe move it away from the window on a brighter day), if you're taking it with a camera just use the camera's auto mode and the exposure and contrast should be adjusted for you (I'm lazy XD) and then edit the photo to get the contrast and brightness right on your computer (I use a website called BeFunky - all the basic options are free but you have to pay to get any of the interesting filters, which aren't too useful when editing a photo anyway ^^). Hope this is helpful!
Yes we should totally do that!

Good idea. I'll probably have it set up in less than a week's time. Gonna pump out the artworks besides, I think it's a requirement that I put recent art as the example. My style has changed so much since the last time I splruged on pony art o.O seeing that you work almost exclusively with ink, are you categorizing commission types by the subject matter?
Ohh the workshop that I got my mom to come to was hosted by a guest speaker at my school. Maybe yours might have something of the like? Regardless, even if you do end up studying for something non art related, art can still be a side job or hobby (:
It can get sooooo technical DX Since my photo taking skills are not the best, I do all the fixing in Photoshop. thank you for tips you gave me! It'll probably reduce a lot of the editing I do on computer haha

Yesssss I can't wait for all the extra art from you I'll probably categorize commissions by subject matter, and unless the commissioner specifies which they'd I'll use the best medium to work in for their choice of subject matter ^^
Oohh nice! There were a few open days with speakers that we went to, but they only really talked about higher education rather than careers. Maybe there'll be another event that I can check out soon though, you're right though, whatever happens I'll never stop creating art ^^
Oh yeah I have to fix a lot in photoshop too, especially with pencil and coloured pencil drawings when the light shines off it all XD glad I could help though!

*incoming trash* HAHA
Ohh so that's how you categorize it. I tried going by mediums but as it turns out, I'm a jack of all trades so that wasn't gonna work. XD
I hope you find one that hits the spot! I'd really love to see you're parents giving you the all green on art as a career! I'll probably still be around when you become god-tier xD hyped for that!
Yeah pencil is really nasty with the reflections. But the shine does give it extra glory effect

nightfuryscars In reply to LolliponyArt [2017-08-11 15:12:06 +0000 UTC]
That's fair enough XD maybe its best to categorize it by subject matter then
Thankyou so much! It means a lot!
Shine always ruins my drawings XD I know some artists who can make it work - how I envy them XD

Ive got it! I think I'll go by portrait or full body. Especially considering full body would require more area to shade.
No problem! ^^
Wait seriously? I can't imagine someone using the reflection to their advantage haha!
