Description     Heya guys! Slowly uploading more art This is probably one of my favourite colour combinations. I really love the calm of cyan and magenta. I've been trying out some more "imaginative" colour schemes rather than trying to mimic how they appear naturally. Very glad to have taken this turn!

Okay honestly, I haven't actually drawn in such a long time. Nothing's really happened since work and the steam summer sales got in my way. And ohh boy, when games click with me, they really click xD That partially explains my lackluster dedication to carrying out my plan of drawing a piece a week this summer. Ohh well... Probably gonna die in school this September BUT I am feeling an art craze coming along, so there's that. When it hits, you'll know How you guys holding up?

I'm decent. Have a job now, working for my dad. Just 4 hours a day, 3 times a week, but that seems to work for me. Also crocheting non-stop.

How are you doing?

Ooo neat! Too much work can get really draining. It must feel great having some spare pocket change to spend (:

Working full time DX I should really be doing more art though. I did buy a new drawing tablet though! That's arriving soon hopefully it'll get me back into it!

Beautiful, stunning, marvelous. This is such an amazing awesome job, Lolip!! You used colors and textures really well. I know I could be starting at it the whole day, I love the sunrise/sunset mood here

I'm currently having the "writing sudden mood". Still haven't let it flow though - probably I'll be doing this as soon as possible and see what comes

nightfuryscars In reply to LolliponyArt [2017-07-15 10:54:41 +0000 UTC]

You could offer to do them and see how people respond , who knows maybe someone might want one?
Yes XD and it wasn't really a booth, it was more of a gallery all the art being displayed there was in the same room ^^ it was free but I think you have to pay them 10% of the money you earn from selling things there

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LolliponyArt In reply to nightfuryscars [2017-07-18 03:58:52 +0000 UTC]

Possibly... But I'm working full time these days so I doubt if even be able to offer it xD I was planning to iron out my art this summer, but I gotta figure out a way with finances so I don't become a starving artist. (Literally)

Ohh like a collection of local artists. I know I would've loved to be there. And 10% of sales is a small percentage for so much exposure! I should keep my eyes and ears out for something of the like in my area. They sound amazing!

nightfuryscars In reply to LolliponyArt [2017-07-18 07:59:34 +0000 UTC]

Ohhh that's fair enough, congratulations though! What's your full time work?

I mean it wasn't the most public place for the art since it was in a small gallery round the back of a local church but I know it got a lot of visitors (its a locally famous annual tradition in the area so a lot of people want to go) so it was a good place to display art ^^ I'm sure there'll be something similar in your local area, as long as the costs aren't too great to display then I'd definitely recommend displaying there

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LolliponyArt In reply to nightfuryscars [2017-07-21 08:25:17 +0000 UTC]

Ehh. Not fond at all of my work. I do warehouse management and landscaping on other days. Though I make a fair bit more than the average high schooler, I'd rather draw and get paid for far less. I'm sure you have a job as well? Or a past job?

Getting famous in the local area! Tbh, that's way better than online fame. That way they're physically there to witness and support you to grow as an artist. Way to go you! Getting involved in the community (: I'm pretty sure there's a artisan/arts event at the other end of town. It's pretty packed, but probably nowhere near the craftsmanship to set up there xD I should go this year just to look

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nightfuryscars In reply to LolliponyArt [2017-07-21 15:50:21 +0000 UTC]

Ohh that's unfair in my opinion its not worth keeping a job you don't enjoy even if its well paid but idk its up to you whether you keep it or not. I've never had a proper job myself actually haha but I deliver newspapers (which isn't considered a proper job) and I make a fair bit of money from art, I did an internship at a local environmental charity a few years back too.

Yes it was a really good opportunity to get my art known in the area (the city mayor was there too although I didn't get to talk to him) and I'll definitely try to put some more up for display next year too that certainly sounds interesting, you should definitely check it out this year to see what its like and maybe consider displaying next year once you know a bit more about it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LolliponyArt In reply to nightfuryscars [2017-07-23 16:38:31 +0000 UTC]

Id love if I could get paid to do art. Unfortunately, the only chance I have at that is with my small fanbase. (Kinda split. Half in half out with ponies) Where did the opportunity arise to work at a charity? That must've been a great experience to get paid and learn while doing art! Either way, I still need money, even if it means doing something I hate. I don't wanna become a starving artist HAHA

Ohh you better be back there next year! Its a goldmine for exposure! Within a year's time, your art level would have hit the 4th dimension or something HAHA did you manage to advertise your Facebook page?

Ohh I wouldn't know about that. The people there are crazy good. Master painters, top tier craftsmen, professional bakers, and all round stellar people. I have like 0 chance HAHA (it's the cultural center of the area) but I'll still take a peek

Btw, I really admire your intuition. You're such an inspirational and outgoing individual. (:

nightfuryscars In reply to LolliponyArt [2017-07-23 20:10:22 +0000 UTC]

Just keep offering a wide range of different commissions for people, if you have more to offer you're more likely to attract people ^^

My old school has a thing where its compulsory to do an internship for a week somewhere at the end of year 10, so I did it with a local conservation charity - I mean I call it an internship but we call it work experience and idk if they're the same thing or not but we don't get paid for doing it, its more about the experience rather than the money. Also I didn't do any art on the internship either, it mostly involved managing nature reserves and things instead XD
Maybe search for a better job but keep doing the job you have at the same time, you might get lucky and find a job with shorter hours but still good pay.
My social anxiety and body dysmorphic disorder makes it really hard for me to find a job that I'd want to do so I know I'll have to start doing a job I don't like in the future, as much as I'd like to be a full time artist (since thats a job that doesn't require much socialising) its not a very reliable career and I'd definitely need a backup otherwise I'd be a starving artist XD I'm still only 17 though so I guess I don't need to think about it just yet

I'll try and be back there next year, although I'll have some major exams to think about too. I still haven't been able to advertise my Facebook page, I've posted links to it on my DA and on my personal Facebook account too and I've got about 30 likes on it so far ^^

Post pictures of it when you go! A lot of the other people displaying at the gallery were professionals who had been working all their lives to produce the quality of the stuff they displayed (I was the youngest person displaying their work, everyone else displaying was much older, at least 40 probably) so I felt the same way when displaying my work, you should definitely check it out though, when is it?

Thankyou so much! I'm glad I can be inspiring to you! Same goes for you honestly!

Do you ever fear not being able to meet someone's expectations? Especially if they're paying for it? I can let go of my mistakes, but when someone else is involved, it kinda feels more... Heavy?

I might be able to get an internship at a video game design company. I was asking my mom about these art related careers and she knows a guy at my church who has his own company, who she's on good terms with. Maybe I can land a spot there? Then again, I don't know anything about video game design, just how to play them HAHA

Ohh that's pretty similar to what we have here, except you do it on your own time. You just need 30 hours of work/volunteer to graduate. (Except we get paid for the work ) I had assumed you did some art advertising for the charity xD wouldn't that be something!

Aww is it really bad? ): even if it's a job you don't like, just hold on till a better opportunity arises. I can bet you'll find a job you enjoy, especially with that outgoing attitude (: and you can always do art as a side job, part time. I came to realize that after looking into freelancing xD you know, even though you're 17, you're so emotionally mature, from the way I perceive it! Anyone who gets to know you will see that. You'll be fine (:

Please! Go again if you can! You have a great place to start expanding your audience. you could also try Instagram? I know that place is huge for art related things. Unless you already have one that I don't know about... O.o

I just looked it up... I missed it this year AHH and as it turns out, the artists who get their work displayed in the gallery have to be invited, courtesy of the city. I can still enjoy it next year from the sidelines.

XD oh you're too sweet

Oh yeah I know exactly what you mean, I'm always worried I'm not going to do exactly as the person commissioning me wants and that its going to go wrong, but I've never actually been in the situation where the person commissioning me has been dissatisfied with the result. One good way to avoid that is to regularly send WIPS and ask them if its going well and if they want anything to be changed. Before going to fill in the lines always send the commissioner the lineart so that if they're not 100% satisfied with it you still have the option to make changes. ^^

Oohhh you should definitely take that opportunity that sounds amazing! Even if you don't know much about game design you can always learn some things while you're there, and you could always look at getting into concept art as well. I'd love to be able to get a career in fantasy video game or film concept art but almost all of it is done digitally now and I could never get into digital art for some reason.

Lucky you got paid XD It would have been nice to do some advertising although I was only there for 5 days so I guess it didn't really have time xD

I mean it could be much worse, its certainly got a little bit better in the last couple of months, but its still pretty bad to the point where many of my normal day-to-day activities are affected by it (for example just going down to the store round the corner can be difficult) so working would definitely be very hard for my mental health. Hopefully I'll be able to find a job that's suitable for me soon though, although at the moment I'm way too busy to get a job XD
Thankyou so much!

I was actually considering getting Instagram but unfortunately I'll need to get a better phone for it as much current phone is really old (it has videos on it from 2012) and won't support it and I can't post from a computer. I'll definitely get it when I have a better phone though and I'll let you know when I've set it up ^^

Aww that's a shame, you should still go back next year though to see what its like ^^ also maybe look and see if there's any other local festivals you could try and display at? Or is that the only one?

Hehehe XD

LolliponyArt In reply to nightfuryscars [2017-07-26 06:34:03 +0000 UTC]

Ohh that's a good way to go about it. Perhaps if I choose to do commissions again, I'll do it that way perhaps my biggest concern is offering pony commissions. Like I haven't been really into ponies for a while now and it feels dishonest to just suddenly offer it. IDK

Ohh. You make it sound even better than I had imagined xD Waaaay better than working at a warehouse/landscaping oh my gosh, I would absolutely LOVE to be a concept artist! I gave up on achieving that because of my lack of originality in my artworks. There are those who just naturally make original artworks, so it's probably better for them. You know, I say you should give it a go. You've got such a technical, yet creative touch to your creations. The first step is getting a tablet it'll take some time to get used to but imagine what you can make!!! Idk, just a thought

Are you okay when it's with friends? Like say one of them invites you over to their place. Or going out as a group? Ohh but I guess they won't be there when working someplace new. ): Maybe your friends can help with introducing new people? Sorry if I'm not helping :/ I can't say I know exactly how it feels. But cheer up! That's something for future you to fiddle with

Ahh yes. Its a shame instagram locks itself to the mobile department. Otherwise, you'd be abounding with followers xD (my account isn't fairing so well hehe)

Ohh yes, I'll make a mark in my calendar for that. The problem is, the art centers here don't really feature art I'm into. Like the big art gallery here has weird stuff in it (anthropomorphic nudes, first Nations pop art, more nudes, etc) and don't get me started on the modern art trend... There is a really good place that's full of rich culture but it's quite a ways away. I'll need to look deeper if I want to discover a smaller art festival... How did you end up finding out/getting a spot in the local gallery?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nightfuryscars In reply to LolliponyArt [2017-07-26 12:07:03 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure offering ponies will be fine, I often go for long periods of time without drawing certain things but they still get good reception when I get them again - I hadn't done a steampunk drawing in ages but then I got commissioned to do one and it made me get back into drawing steampunk things again. ^^

There was a point where I really wanted to be a character concept artist, maybe creating fantasy creatures for videos games, although I'm always anxious to get into a career like that in case it doesn't work out. I feel like I'll be more likely to get into tattoo design - two people are getting tattoos of some of my designs and my boyfriend knows several tattoo places that would be willing to give me an internship or take my designs. Only problem is that my parents don't want me getting into that area of art because 'I have so much more potential and I shouldn't waste it' :') still you should definitely check out what those places offer, it might be just your thing!
I actually do have a tablet, I just never got round to using it, I couldn't get the hang of it and it frustrated me a lot haha XD I might have another look at it this summer though ^^

I'm much better when I'm with friends or family, being with people I know well always helps but being with unfamiliar people makes it worse so the job would be harder at the start but might get easier the longer I have it (providing its not a job that requires talking to lots of new people XD). Also if friends introduce me to new people that does tend to help as well, but I guess I don't need to think about this stuff just at the moment XD thankyou so much though!

If I do get Instagram I'll definitely make sure to follow your account, it usually takes a while to get followers on social media sites though, I've been on DA for nearly 4 years and my number of followers only really increased in the last year. ^^

Yeah that makes sense, I went to several galleries when I was in Canada and they mostly consisted of First Nations art (not that I dislike it, I actually find it very interesting and I really like it, its just not my style if that makes sense). I'm not a fan of modern art or nude art either if I'm honest XD who knows there might be something smaller you can look into, do you like in a large city? If so its likely there'll be lots of opportunities for you, I live in a large town/small city and there's quite a few options for me ^^
Its an annual event so its not on display permanently (which is good in that you don't need to pay as much to get a spot to display in), there aren't a huge number of local artists who want to display so I had no trouble getting a place. My family often do other things as part of the event (there's a scarecrow competition where people make their own based on a theme and display them in their front gardens and members of the public can go round the gardens and vote for their favorites so often my parents make things for that) so I've always known about this event but I only started displaying two years ago (although I didn't display last year due to exams).

LolliponyArt In reply to nightfuryscars [2017-07-28 03:21:37 +0000 UTC]

The thing is, I never really "offered" it xD Like I made all those fancy journals a stuff, but I never posted it I guess now its just a question of if I wanna do it.

What happened to that dream? Like it's not a bad idea, especially considering your art background! Ohh but yes, tattoos as well. In general, you've got so many opportunities that you can take with your artistic ability. And yeah, don't get on the bad side of your parents! I know my parents would definitely disapprove as well. I'd really love to grab that internship, but I lack the skill in the fantasy/character/environment department. But heck, I'd love to go for just experience. Ohh yes! Get on it! The digital transition is SO HARD! Like it took me FOREVER to switch over. You just need to keep at it to retrain the hand eye coordination. But that said, your art style is really hard to replicate digitally and won't have the same finesse as traditional. :/ Maybe a new style?

Ohh how I would hate being a cashier. But the appeal of shelf stocking/working in the backroom definitely trumps working the cash box Another good idea would be working someplace one of your friend's work. that way its a nicer transition? But yeah xD Something for future you to think on You're very welcome (: I try to help (To what extent, idk :/ )

Ohh that'd be neato! I haven't been posting much there so there's why it's taking a while to build a following It does take a while gaining traction. Its pretty much the same here! All the watchers mostly came in the last year.

THATS EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN. Did you happen to go to the Vancouver Art Gallery? I remember many years back, (2010?) they actually had quality art in there. MASTER OIL PAINTINGS. STILL LIFE. WHERE DID THOSE GO Well if being in a more populated area should mean more opportunities, I am clueless where to look

Ohh so its also like a culture event and not just a dedicated art event? I think we have a few of these going on around here, but its usually celebrating a season or holiday (Halloween, Christmas, etc) and I don't know if they have art displays up. HOW DO YOU FIND PLACES!??!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nightfuryscars In reply to LolliponyArt [2017-07-28 20:53:31 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah same, I kept making drafts for commission sheets and making them look all fancy but then I never got round to posting them XD I think you should go for it and post them, and if for any reason you want to stop offering them you still have the option to close them again until you feel like opening them again

I mean I guess the idea of my parents not liking it really put me off a lot, I mean I'd still like to get a job in art but I have absolutely no idea what sort of job I'd want XD normally these places accept people for internships as long as they have experience in art and design in general (often you can provide portfolios of your work to show them your experience - that kingfisher print you got would be a great thing to show them) so it would be worth a try anyway ^^
That's my main issue with digital, the transition would be hard and my style doesn't work well digitally anyway - I'm pretty good at picking up new styles but then I guess I'd be afraid to lose my current style :/ Its hard to know what to do XD

Oh same here, being a cashier would get boring and tedious so quickly (my friend works as one and she hates it). Working with a friend would definitely help actually but not many of my friends have jobs so I'd have to wait until some more options opened up (you do help, you give really good advice )

That's fair enough, I stop gaining followers at the same rate when I stop posting on DA so I imagine its the same on Instagram ^^ I'm sure you'll start gaining more soon though, your art is so good!

I think we didn't end up going to that gallery but we went to one in Whistler (is that how you spell it?) and one in Tofino where my aunt lives which both mostly consisted of First Nations and Modern stuff too. WHERE HAVE ALL THOSE MASTER OIL PAINTINGS GONE I CAN'T FIND ANY ANYWHERE ANYMORE
Just look everywhere around you, you'll find opportunities when you least expect it ^^

I guess yeah, we have some other things too like that in our town like the annual flower show and the annual food festival (although they aren't really for art). Maybe look into them, you never know what you might find ^^
