For such an odd little film this one had a great cast. Cushing, Lee, and of course Telly Savalas as the craziest Cossack ever.
"I'll have you sent to Siberia!"
"I am from Siberia!"

Yes. More than one low-budget film has been saved by clever writing and good acting.

Β I love it when Telly Savalas accuses them of being the killers and Cushing says, "But we're British!"

Kinda feel like the Monster shouldnβt have been some stupid alien but an ancient flesh eating species that slowly infected the people on the train with a feral virusΒ

Cushing and Lee will always make a movie good, even in the movie Stupids, Lee plays Mr. Sender and even though he has a small part he steals the show!

It didn't matter how the actual movie turned out -Cushing and Lee were always good, and that says something about them as people and actors.

I picked this up a year or so ago on BlueRay/DVD combo taken from a stunning complete print found in a Mongolian film depot of all places! It was released by Severin Films in 2011 with a ton of extras. Your art makes a nice tribute to a great film!

Thanks! I'll try to find that DVD, since I only have this movie as an ex-VHS rental.

It's a really solid film. It gets going very early on, and never lets up.

I caught the ending on TCM today. Great film, I believe it might be in the public domain.Β

Yes, I believe it is in the public domain. Catch the whole thing when you can, it's very well written, acted and staged.

A great film that runs very like a Dr Who story. I'd love to see your take on Island of Terror and Q-The Winged Serpent.

Q-The Winged Serpent is an old favourite; I'll have to give that one a go eventually

I always though it was supposed to be a frozen-thawed Yeti thing... but I've never gotten to see it all the way through ....

Also Telly Savalas was great as the crazy Cossack!

"But still, the Devil must be afraid of one honest Cossack."
I think it's Savalas best role. And the film is smattering with great dialogue!

Someone said once that 1972 was one of the greatest year for horror films..you still have the Β nexus point of the gothic influence of the past with the social upheaval thing starting to show itself with the sex and violence (and gore) creeping in. The spanish horror was known for that and this was a co production like you said.
I can't wait to see what film you draw a pic from next!Β

Well crap, here's another Hammer film I missed... Going to have to be more on the lookout then!

Loneanimator In reply to Zeonista [2015-04-16 22:09:48 +0000 UTC]
It's actually not a Hammer film, but a Spanish/British production. It's well worth finding, and as it's in the public domain it should be on YouTube. This film is a bit of everything; a thriller, a murder mystery, a monster movie, and science fiction.

At least it had an imaginative script, which seems to be more than what most of Hollywood is doing these days.

The film has, probably, the best dialogue of any Victorian/Edwardian costume horror drama. It moves along at a cracking pace, and never gets boring. It keeps you guessing all the time about what new twist it'll be taking shortly.

Fantastic! I really like this movie too. It's just sad that Cushing had lost his wife around this time and almost didn't want to do this film. Such a sad fact.
On a side note....the scene where he is looking at the "liquid eye" sample and see's a miniature version of the universe...in the eyeball fluid...........that part makes my head hurt a lot lol I don't think biology works that way haha.

Loneanimator In reply to earthbaragon [2015-04-16 22:04:33 +0000 UTC]
Yes, Chris Lee remarked in his autobiography that Cushing went through a rough time while making this film.
About that eye scene; I always figured it had more to do with the creature itself having powers that didn't apply to any earthly physicality.Β
