Got to confess...I am just not a huge Dune fan. Either from the movie, the miniseries, or the book. I just never really got it unfortunately The movie especially cause it was constructed so stupidly with over 3 or 4 characters all having internal dialogue in their head. That works in a book but not in a film. Just choose one person and one person only. I had such a hard time figuring out what was going on when I first saw that. I was like why is everyone whispering. Then I released they were talking to themselves in their head...like in a book o_0

I guess either you like it or not. I love the Dune books, and the film versions I take for what they are. It's true that the Lynch movie is a very strange experience, but I found it engrossing. A new movie version has been talked about for a very long time now, but I guess it's all about having the project fall into the right hands.

Yep, that's the one
"Dune" is full of great quotes you can throw at people in your everyday surroundings to befuddle them, like: "The slow blade penetrates the shield", "The sleeper must awaken", "It is by my will alone I set my mind in motion".

And my favorite: "I did not say this...I was not here."

A beginning is a very delicate time.. And the Lynch movie pulls it off beautifully.

The movie, for all its off-the-wall approach to the novel, really got the worms right, which was a triumph for pre-CG f/x work. I used to own a "behind the scenes " book about the film. The production crew therein said they had a difficult time shooting the worm models so they didn't look overly phallic on the screen.

My (at the time) innocent mind never got the penis connotation. I did read somewhere that they used microballoons for the sand in the worm model shots. That's naaaaaasty stuff!
