Description
The Sagari is the ghost of a horse who died beneath a tree, and now spends the afterlife scaring the bejeezus out of anyone passing that tree. Basically it's a horse's head dangling from a tentacle-like tail or a human arm growing out of its head. This image was done for a book project about the creatures of japanese folklore.Related content

Funny the Sagari is not mentioned on Wikipedia's list of legendary creatures from Japan.Β Β Maybe it's not that well-known...
But anyway, this illustration is truly great. Seems the yokai can assume almost any kind of form.Β Β

This is quite disturbing, esp. when you suppose it can make noises. And horses cry is terrible - well, japanese folklore is pretty disturbing.

They have HUGE amounts of various demons, sub-demons, boogeymen and so on - itΒ΄s astonishing.
