Great artwork, he's one of my favorite monsters. I dont know why people like Beulah better than Zontar, I really like Beulah's design and Zontars eyes makes him look silly but at least Zontar is more intimidating with those giant wings and its actually bigger than the leading lady, something that Corman couldnt foresee in his first attempt.

I guess Beulah is simply better known. It had time on its side too, being around for a bit befor Zontar made his appearance.

I little bit I guess. I mean, I like Beulah but people really hate on Zontar as if it was the creeping terror or something XD

I guess he's a pretty cheaply made monster, but I like his crazy design.

yeah it looked like there was something wrong with him, his eyes are specially goofy but I still really like him.Β

Also, have you ever considered doing The Eye Creatures?, I really like those monsters also.

I'll probably tackle the Eye Creatures too, at some point

Alas,no one seems to want to create really good terrifying, frightening style of monsters that they used to in Hollywood anymore.

That's a pretty fantastic interpretation of him. Though Belial from It Conquered the World was way better of a monster than this was. And this was a remake of that movie. And I like that you even put the brain controlling bug bat things from the film too.

But yeah, it's a pretty boring movie...but you have to admire that they really went out of the box to make the monster way different from the 50's film. It' just a shame that movies like this and several others in the late 60's and early 70's basically stole entire stories from 50's films. Ala for example....The Eye Creatures and Invasion of the Saucer Men.

Yes, the original, for all its fualts, is the better film. I couldn't get a clear image of the flying lobster-bat-things, so they're pretty much a broad interpretation.

I actually like the design of Zontar (as well as his name); that's why I made this drawing. And I'm planning on starring him in a short stop-mo video about his life on Venus before coming here

You have to make sure to include other things that live on Venus. You know...like a certain Harryhausen sympathetic biped lizard (of course he would be really tiny as the atmosphere on Venus kept him bite size). And of course you have to include the fire-spitting tarantula that was fromΒ  The Stooges movie, The Three Stooges Have Rocket Will Travel

Yes, Zontar will be the master of all other life forms, but the Ymir will probably not be included, as it's super-copyrighted (I'm guessing). I just thought I'd create some monsters of my own, but the Stooges spider is a great idea.

I know ZOntar was supposed to be a frightening beast, but he seems like a B-list season baddie for Doctor Who.

I reflected on that too! Classic Doctor Who was almost always made on an impossibly tight budget and schedule, and yet they cranked out monsters with far more appeal than Zontar, who is actually the star of his own movie.

Some people care about it, some just draw a paycheck. Easy to see which is which from the finished work, right?
